Woman Charged with DUI in Her Own Driveway After Ramming Garage Door

SPRING HILL – A Spring Hill woman is charged with driving under the influence, after officials say she rammed a car into the garage door of her home on Carthage Road.

According to reports, deputies were called to 9415 Carthage Road Saturday night, where they observed 45-year-old Dorothy Jane Barkley behind the wheel of a vehicle, parked in her driveway. During the investigation, it was revealed that Barkley had damaged the garage door with her vehicle. Barkley failed a battery of field sobriety exercises, despite claims that she only drank two beers earlier in the evening.

Barkley was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Barkley remains behind bars at this time, held on a $1,000 bond.

  • ANTNY you feel sorry for her dont cause the bitch was stupid to drink and drive in the first place. She was oviously driving if she ran into her garage which means she was probaly coming home from somewhere and God forbid she was out there and ran into your family car with your family in it killing you or your family then would u feel sorry for the bitch no you would want to kill her. I hope she gets a long time in jail to think about how it could have been a lot worse.

  • I agree East Pasco. If I bought 50 acres, built a small oval paved track, got drunk in my car, and drove it around the track, I seriously doubt I could be convicted of DUI. If someone saw a tire touch public property, all bets are off.

    Wednesday, 19 April 2017, 4:43 pm
    • Nope. You would be convicted of DUI. Even on your own property. Sorry that’s how the law works. (Grandfather was an alcoholic)

  • Although I agree she WAS driving under the influence and should be charged, I would be willing to bet she beats the charge with a good lawyer. Most driving laws/statues pertain to public streets, public places etc. SHE WILL BEAT IT IF SHE FIGHTS IT.

  • You can be sitting in your car in your own driveway listening to the radio and if your keys are in the ignition, they can give you a DUI… Ridiculous…

    Wednesday, 19 April 2017, 10:48 am
  • If he keys were in the ignition then they have every right to charge her as they should.

    Wednesday, 19 April 2017, 8:15 am

  • I was charged with a DUI, in my car, in my driveway… with NO KEYS! Locked myself outta the house at 3-4am, went in my car and fell asleep. I lived on a busy street, someone saw me at 8am and called 911.
Mind you I had locked myself out of the house.. my vehicle had no keys! Charges were reduced to a wet reckless. Such BS! Never even left my house the day/night before. (FYI NEVER SIT IN THE DRIVER SEAT under influence, to put Windows up, use phone… whatever. Passenger or back seat is ok… I guess

  • Always, Always… Take the keys out of the ignition!!! Know the Laws people! ex; Say you’re parked on the side of the road, or in this case, even in your own driveway, and you’re waiting to (sober up a bit, catch a nap or even kissing), If a LEO questions you and suspects you’ve been drinking and the keys are STILL in the ignition… You’re going to get tested and if you fail or refuse, you’re going to jail, just like this Woman!

      Thursday, 20 April 2017, 11:17 am
  • I don’t think you can .. She’s on her own property. The police have no business going on her property unless she’s threatening someone or hurting someone.. If they didn’t see her drive ..then they have no proof she could have been trying to move it or whatever. But she’s on her own property.. Very hard for them to prove and make it stick…

    Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 8:39 pm
    • So you can’t be arrested for killing people, abusing your spouse, or be arrested for anything on private property? You can even open a nuclear waste disposal site if you want, just because it’s private property. Thanks for clarifying!

      Geez!!

      Wednesday, 19 April 2017, 1:20 pm
      • right? idiots i swear..lol you cant break the law just bc you are on private property. ugh smh.

        Saturday, 22 April 2017, 1:17 pm

    Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 7:18 pm
  • IF YOU ARE IN THE CAR WITH KEYS IN THE IGNITION YOU CAN BE CHARGED. PRIVATE PROPERTY OR NOT.

    Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 7:18 pm
    • 100% CORRECT ANYWHERE ANY TIME YOU ARE DRUNK IN THE VEHICLE AND KEYS IN IGNITION = D U I

      Wednesday, 19 April 2017, 1:29 pm
    • Keys do NOT have to be in the ignition.. you can pull keys out and put them in the globe box, still get a D UI.
If your batteries dead, you fall asleep in car waiting for a jump, cops pull up DUI, because someone could’ve jumped it, and you are in physical control of vehicle by being in seat… DUI-
There’s such broad spectrum of the DUI laws, its extremely easy to get caught up in a case that seems impossible.

      Saturday, 22 April 2017, 5:03 pm
  • Can you get a dui on private property?

    Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 6:22 pm
  • thats going to be hard to prove.

You can drive your car under the influence on your own property.

    Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 6:16 pm
    • No, you can’t drive your vehicle while intoxicated on private property. Look up DUI laws.

      Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 7:57 pm
      • A judge would throw it out.

        Wednesday, 19 April 2017, 10:21 pm
        • LOL, why don’t you try it? Get drunk call the cops and dare them to arrest you. Then see if (when) it sticks.

          Thursday, 20 April 2017, 10:11 am
  • how can she be charged with this if she was just sitting in her car? did they observe her driving?

    Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 6:07 pm
    • Witnesses can place her behind the wheel.

      Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 7:57 pm
      • thanks, must have missed that.

        Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 11:42 pm
        • Witnesses would also need to prove she was drunk at the time. A person has to be in the driver seat, and drunk. Otherwise you could’ve left, got drunk, then returned.

          Wednesday, 19 April 2017, 6:42 am
