A Man’s Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget Leads to Retail Theft Charge
BROOKSVILLE – Not everyone can afford an expensive bottle of champagne, even on the most special of occasions, but a local transient thought he could get away with a fine bottle of bubbly last Friday by simply shoving it down his pants and walking out of a local Walmart.
That’s exactly what officials say 21-Year-old Robert Michael Hale did, when he walked into the Walmart Supercenter on Cortez Blvd and walked out with a $52.00 bottle of Moet Chandon. Unfortunately for Hale, loss prevention employees were hot on his trail and stopped him when he passed all points of sales.
Hale told deputies during an interview that he intended on selling the champagne to a fellow homeless man in exchange for cash.
Hale was booked into the Hernando County Jail on one count of retail theft and later posted a $1,000 bond.
