Child, 3, Dies After Family Struck by Car – Unlicensed Driver Charged

BROOKSVILLE – There are several new developments regarding yesterday’s tragic accident on Neff Lake Road that left three people injured – including two children. ORIGINAL REPORT Sadly, RNRF just received information that 3-year-old Ava Thomas has died from injuries sustained in the crash. Her brother, 1-year-old Spencer Thomas remains in very critical condition. The children’s mother, 35-year-old Lacey Thomas is in stable condition.

The driver responsible for the crash, 26-year-old William Cameron Perkins taken into custody at the scene and charged with three counts of Driving with a Suspended License with Great Bodily Injury or Death. He was also cited for careless driving. Perkins remains behind bars at this time, held on a $30,000 bond.

We spoke to Perkins wife, Jackie Perkins, who says her husband called her immediately after the accident, hysterical and screaming over what happened. Speaking on her husband’s behalf, Jackie says William threw a cigarette out the window, but it blew back in and burned his stomach. That’s when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the family.

Jackie says William’s mother lives on Neff Lake Road and that he was test driving the vehicle involved in the crash.

Perkins does have an extensive criminal history, but mostly theft and fraud charges; however, he was just arrested in January for Battery.

We will continue to bring more on this very tragic story as it develops.

ORIGINAL REPORT

UPDATE: 4/1/2016, 6:18 P.M. – The Florida Highway Patrol has just released a preliminary report regarding today’s accident.

According to officials, 26-year-old William Cameron Perkins was driving his 2002 Jaguar southbound on Neff Lake Road, when he became distracted by a dropped cigarette, confirming earlier speculation. As result, Cameron’s vehicle struck 35-year-old Lacey Thomas and two of her three children – a 1-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl. Their 6-year-old sister was not struck by the vehicle. All three victims are listed in critical condition and have been airlifted St Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

BROOKSVILLE – A mother and two young children have been struck by a vehicle in the area of 3330 Neff Lake Road. Fire Rescue is on the scene and are requested three helicopters to respond, due to the extent of the injuries.

Both children are reportedly unconscious at this time. The mother is conscious and breathing.

According to our sources, the driver of the vehicle dropped his cigarette and struck the three pedestrians.

Firends of the Thomas family created the following Gofundme Page to help the family. https://www.gofundme.com/rpx45rd8

  • What everyone doesn’t even bother to think about, is that this could have happened to anyone, with or without a license, the fact that he didn’t have a license shouldn’t be the main factor. Like the momof3, said she accidentally hit a kid and she had a license, now if all these allegations are true tht he’s a tweaker and was high when driving tht day, speeding then yea he’s guilty. But if he rly did burn himself then of course he veered and didn’t see them cuz he wasn’t paying attn. After 3 days of him not doing drugs though, he’d come up clean in a test, so by now the test can’t even be validated
Does anyone in this ever bother to use their brains? Or just go straight to judging and jumping to conclusions.

    • If the police at the accident head any suspicion that this man was under the influence they would have been on it and had him tested and they would have reported it being that is a very high drug area so I’m sure with the death of a child they were on alert to see if he was high so for all of you that continue to call him a tweeker stop coming up with things from your imagination and trying to state them as facts cause otherwise how are you so sure he is an addict and doors and sells meth are you a customer of his or maybe a fellow user oh no them you have no idea do pray for the injured family that lost that gorgeous child and stop judging people you know nothing about I walk with my children all over the place and you are all saying that he had plenty of time to see them because came from way across the street well then while you are judging him you realise you are also saying that the mother had plenty of time to see him coming and her out of the way and you can’t day either because you were not at the scene

  • Smartypants we all know who you are. It is sick that you side with your tweaker husband even though he is a career criminal. He is the one who got you strung out on pills and now meth. He caused your demise. Yet, you still stand by your man, till death do you part huh? Welp he killed a child already so…

    Saturday, 9 April 2016, 2:48 am
  • Well sometime has passed now since my first post way up at the top of this thread and it has come to light or is coming to light how much of a thug this guy is. Smartypants, this was no accident because this thug decided to break the law. When your willful actions cause death or injury to someone it is no accident, it is a pattern that has finally caught up to you. This thug has been bouncing around the minor leagues for sometime and finally stepped up to the Majors at the expense of this beautiful child and family. Stop trying to defend this punk because there is no defense. Call the kettle black and move on and support this family of victims. Again May he ROT in hell and live in misery until his day of judgement. May this angel we lost be lifted up and her family healed.

    Friday, 8 April 2016, 12:33 am
  • Omg smartypants, blame it on the victim, what kind of perv are you. You call it an accident. Had he had a license I think his sentence would be less but due to the fact he was breaking the law I hope they put him away for a long time. He chose to drive without a license, thereby breaking the law. If you want to defend him why don’t you volunteer to serve half his time? Bad juju? What rock did you crawl out from under?

    Thursday, 7 April 2016, 8:32 pm
  • You

    Thursday, 7 April 2016, 5:24 pm
  • @smartypants, does your mother know what an idiot she raised. They were walking legally in the street. How in the Hell did he not see the RED wagon the mom was pulling if he was just distracted for a few seconds? No need to answer since we all know tou are full of it.

    Thursday, 7 April 2016, 5:12 pm
  • To those wishing bad on the drive be-careful that’s bad juju and it will bite you in the ***.. what he did was an accident **** happens we are human we make bad mistakes he does not deserve to spend life in prison that’s just crazy.

While drivers have a responsibility to pay attention to prevent accidents on the road, pedestrians have equal responsibility to stay alert while walking on the road/sidewalks or crossing the road.

Shame on the mother for not paying attention to her surroundings while walking with 3 small children on a known busy road…

Where a sidewalk is not provided, a pedestrian can walk on the road. (Warning, always be cautious and remember that sharing roadways with cars always places one in greater danger.) When a sidewalk is not provided, a pedestrian should walk only on the shoulder on the left side of the roadway as related to the pedestrian’s direction of walking, facing the oncoming traffic. (A driver and a pedestrian who face each other are more aware of each other’s presence, and this reduces the likelihood of any kind of accident.)

Following the law, paying attention, and being aware of one’s surroundings will help one avoid dangerous situations and injurious, or even fatal, accidents.

  • This guy and his “wife” are meth head tweakers. They have pawned anything and everything for pills. They are junkies who have destroyed lives of innocent people. I hope they rot in prison forever. The criminal justice system is insane with their catch and release nonsense. Lock this terrorists up forever before they kill more innocent children.

    Wednesday, 6 April 2016, 6:52 am
  • This guy was charged with driving suspended license 3x, if that folks in your mind doesn’t make him a criminal, Then I guess he never will be. Let’s all feel sorry for him, and we all know he is a good hearted guy that’s just had a few run ins with the law. Well I for one hopes he spends the rest of his natural life in prison, and if someone beats his ass on a daily basis well to bad, I hope that nothing happens well for him ever again. And I’m not saying this because of an accident occurred, this is my thoughts because the man has been slapped on the wrist already for driving without a license, and if he was not a criminal he would not have been behind the wheel. Kinda like giving someone enough rope, except in this case a precious baby girl passed away. So very sad.

    Monday, 4 April 2016, 5:03 pm
  • Just did some checking, Is this scum bag related to Samantha Perkins????

    Monday, 4 April 2016, 11:54 am
  • His ******** name sounds familiar, at least the last name. Bet he has a prior or a relative. Yea I agree, he needs never to see the outside of a prison for the rest of his life. This was no accident, this was neglect causing the death of a poor innocent child. There is no excuse no matter what for his actions what so ever.

    Monday, 4 April 2016, 11:46 am
  • He needs to be locked up for as long as possible, Jackie to for going along with this bs story. I dont see how anyone can defend this guy he is driving on a suspended and kills atleast one child and injures 2 others , just look up his past history and you would have to be dam near mental to defend him. Rip to the poor baby and i pray the rest of the family can heal from this.

    Monday, 4 April 2016, 9:55 am
  • God bless this family and thank God for the bus driver that called 911 while he called his wife. Who knows what would have happened if she hadn’t called when she did.

    Monday, 4 April 2016, 8:01 am
  • Prayers for this family. Everyone please even if you are not religious. For this mother and her son. Can everyone please say prayers for this baby boy to pull through. She has lost her baby girl. I pray she doesn’t lose her baby boy too. Please prayers can be powerful. Just ask the lord to please wrap his arms around this baby boy and to give him strength to pull through this. Prayer is powerful. Just believe and please say a prayer tonight in the morning and Continue praying. I’ve lost my little brother tragically unexpected and I just lost my very best friend the same way. But this little boy is a fighter. Please pray. Clearly I am not going to judge the man that was driving. It’s clear he is devastated over this. His past is his past. But this man regardless of his past no should not have been. Driving. No one knows why he has a suspended FL. He definitely should have used his tax money to clear that up. But this was a tragic accident and he must be hurting as well. I’m sure his kids miss him to his wife. But they still have him. Have some consideration and send your thoughts and prayers for this family who lost a child and could lose another. That is what bothered me the most. Don’t be selfish. If this was your child that was hit in the sa.e situation how would you feel a different react. Think about it. Ppl drive everyday on no DL or suspensions. Let this be a reminder to you to clean up your DL so you never have to have this happen to you. Pay ur support or pay of your tickets if you lost it for a long time. Ride the bus or have someone else drive you around.
So sorry for all involved. I don’t doubt that this tragic accident has and is effecting this man that caused the accident. But he has to pay for what he has done. He doest deserve to die and all these crazy things. But he does. Need to be held responsible for all his actions and serve time in prison as I’m sure he will. Then maybe he will ask himself why he didn’t fix his own license with that tax money. So sorry for the father. Kiss your kids hold them tight tell your loved ones how much they mean to you and most of all stay out of the streets bc they are not safe anymore. To many ppl driving and not paying attention. These roads need to be fixed.

    Monday, 4 April 2016, 1:37 am
  • My deepest condolences to the family. However it happened is just awful. If we learn anything from this tragedy it’s not to be a distracted driver. Put the cell phones down, and slow down on the rural roads of Brooksville where it’s easy to speed. This tragedy will definitely be on my mind as I’m driving to work and I get a text or a call. My thoughts are with the family.

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 11:42 pm
  • He is a messed up, grandma’s spoiled grandson addicted meth head who doesn’t give a **** about the law.

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 11:02 pm

    • ie an accident

      Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:45 pm
  • Here’s more information on this for those who didn’t read this article. Neighbors say that Perkins has been seen driving that car on that street for the last month so for his wife to say he was test driving it, that is not true Tom. It answers questions that some of you have.
I pray that Spencer pulls through and that both Lacey and Spencer make complete recoveries. I also pray for Rick. I’m broken hearted more after reading the above article. I knew this girl was covering up for her husband. The cigarette story, I’m not buying it either. You just can’t trust a junkie. Please dear God, I hope they did a blood draw on him. Why is his arrest not listed on either spots on the sheriff’s website?

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 3:02 pm
      • I was so upset, I forgot to include the link to the story. Here it is, really.
I understand those were her comments and I don’t think she understands what she’s doing. It is a sad story all the way around, and my heart breaks for Rick and his family. My continued prayers are with them.
Thank you for all that you do for our community Mr. Lemons. I appreciate your hard work.

        Sunday, 3 April 2016, 8:35 pm
    • maybe he just finished doing some work on the car and “test drove” it to make sure it was done right.

      Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:45 pm
  • I feel bad for all, driover too! In a moment all those lives changed forever.

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 11:12 am
    • so sad

      Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:44 pm
  • Dirt bags need to start receiving serious punishment for commenting crimes that they wont soon forget and that includes getting the crap beaten out in addition the the prison time, They need to be thrown onto chain gangs and forced to work and if they refuse to work, Bread and water diet and if they go on a hunger diet have other inmates start digging their grave period!

  • I agree with Jenny, why would a mother be walking on the pavement and not on the side of the road. Did the mother of a right to be on the road? Yes. Having said that, the mother also has the responsibility to make sure she is alert to all passing vehicles. As mentioned many times our roads are full of drivers acting careless. Since we know this, we should be more alert and ready to take action at a moments notice.
Additionally, side walks seem to be the go to cry when someone is hit along side any road. If the neighborhood wants sidewalks and they pay for them then lets give the neighborhood sidewalks. If the residents can not pay their portion in one lump sum, expense the sidewalks yearly through “their” tax bill. Otherwise let the county vote on a “sidewalk” tax and if passed let every street have sidewalks.
In closing, if we are no longer responsible for our own actions, walking on the road and not off to the side, then lets force everyone to share the cost burden of installing sidewalks on all streets.

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 9:03 am
    • Read this article. It may clear some things up for you.
As for building sidewalks everywhere, people want to preserve their areas in our rural community.
If this Perkins kid would follow the law for once, this would not have happened. I’m very upset that his wife can be so untruthful to try to save this boy and I’m even sadder that she says how ever many kids this guy has wants their daddy home. Who says that, especially when that monster is the one who robbed a family of their little girl and possibly a little boy? Someone who is not in their right mind, or who was burned their brain cells out with drugs. That’s who!!

      Sunday, 3 April 2016, 8:44 pm
      • he did not set out looking for kids to kill he did not mean for this to happen accidents happen god forbid you getting distracted and accidentally hit someone..

        Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:43 pm
  • Prayers to both families. Just a tid bit of info… You don’t have to have a liscense to buy a car or register it. You only have to have a liscense to insure it. Yes it is very tragic and sad. It is human nature to be upset when something like this happens. Some people on here a just crazy with conspiracy theories.

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 7:18 am
  • This guy is without a doubt, a 100% Meth Head Tweaker. He sells meth also from what I hear. This guy is so hooked on pain killers he has to shoot them up in order to get high. He is no better than ISIS IMO. HE murdered a child. Please draw blood and test him for drugs. Meth, oxy, who knows what else could be in his system.

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 6:04 am
  • You know it’s without a doubt a tragic and heartfelt life changing event for all involved. I myself have children that age. So I totally feel the pain . But let’s not forget that not one of us has ever done something pretty stupid in our lives, and dome of us probably have done something even more dangerous then driving a vehicle on s suspended licence but got away with it. So please people the ones that are saying hate full or hurtfull things, that this man also has a family and some of us have kids or family members that done dumb things. It is tragic for all involved and my heart and prayers go out to them. This is why they are called accidents. Love your family cause this could have been anyone of our family on either side of the spectrum

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 3:25 am
    • beautifully put

      Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:39 pm
  • My heartfelt condolences to the Family praying for the mom and her other children it will take time to get over this hurt also praying for Mr. Perkins

    Sunday, 3 April 2016, 12:06 am
  • what is illegal is his littering of a cigarette! yea as petty as is sounds everyone who smokes throws these butts still burning out their window and that my friends is littering and in some cases arson as you start a brush or woods fire with that cigarette! stop and look at an intersection how much littered cigarette butts are laying around its an eye sore! so had he just put the cigarette butt in a can in a cup holder or ash tray where they belong this would not have happened

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 11:07 pm
    • I got stopped and fined, years ago for littering, and it was due to throwing a cigarette butt out of a car window. It is illegal to litter however I don’t believe that’s what really happened. I think that is a made up story and why Perkins called his “wife” first, so that they can get their story straight. I hope FHP took his phone (which it sounds like they didn’t) to check it, and I hope they drug tested him.

      Sunday, 3 April 2016, 9:00 am
      • Jew you are a trouble maker leave it to the police to determine the truth behind the story… people make rash decisions when adrenaline kicks in

        Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:38 pm
  • this is all terrible. I have two little ones. The story makes me hug them a second time before bed. No matter what happened or happens to this guy, the little girl will never be brought back and the family will never be the same. Some how Im having a hard time believing the cigarette story. Regardless, from the details the car was bought and given him bc he doesnt have a license. It seems many bad choices were made one after another that came to this horrible event. I cant imagine the horrible feeling from having to bury your own child and I never want to experience such. Please if anything thank you Tom for reporting this and maybe some one that reads it will think twice before making a bad choice involving driving or will appreciate every precious moment with family just a little more in memory of this tragedy. Hopefully justice is served. We can all be angry over this as its a raw natural human emotion but in the end I might sound silly but read your kid a story tonight, take them on a bike ride, or get more involved in their lives bc you never know what tomorrow holds.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:50 pm
    • Excellent advise. I have lost a child as well so I have hugged my kids and grandkids extra since reading this story. I’ve had my grandkids sleep over, to give them extra lovin’ and cuddling. I cherish the time with them. One never knows when an accident can happen, however this could have been avoided if the law was followed.

May the good Lord be with this family during this horribly sad time.

I hope and pray that justice is served. Perkins needs to do some serious time over this crime of his. The innocent family he hit will never be the same. Jackie needs to be honest with herself, get off the drugs she’s on and find God. She needs serious help. For her to comment that Perkins kids want him home. Junkie, Ava will not be in her family’s arms, until they meet again. Jackie has proven herself as a cold-hearted, selfish, conniving person.

      Sunday, 3 April 2016, 8:56 am
  • praying for the family that the mighty hand of GOD reaches down and mends a broken heart and sends healing strength through this mothers mind and body we serve a GOD that is alive and he’s still in the healing business

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:42 pm
  • Prayers for everyone involved in this tragic accident

  • Does Silverthorne ring a bell

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 9:57 pm
  • Im very sad for the family hurt and the child lost but i have known Cameron Perkins all my life he is a good hearted person and would never hurt anyone he is not a criminal or a thug he works hard to try to provide for his own child this was a accident.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 9:54 pm
  • Yeah Lee, and let’s charge the person that sold the gas to power the car that the guy with no license drove.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 8:51 pm
    • Jackie admitted that the car was put in his mothers name. They bought it with their tax money and it was not put in his name because he does not have a license. She’s always posting pictures of William driving this same car on Instagram (I’m sure that’s either closed or those pictures made private by now), so she is lying for him when she said he was test driving the car. That’s why he called her right away, to get their story straight before the law arrived. I heard he burned himself after the accident, and that’s the excuse they came up with in that phone call!! On Facebook a post from Ohio was put up, where both Jackie and William were charged with passing counterfeit money at a Dollar General store….the same one that a person was found overdosed on heroin at. Matthew and all the other alter egos you have used here. William Cameron is a career criminal, who has been in the Florida prison system. So is Jackie, a criminal with records in other states. William crossed the entire road, going off of the other side and hit these three innocent human beings. He’s a lowlife, scumbag and a criminal who murdered someone. It’s no accident when someone kills another person while they are violating the law.

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:15 pm
    • Your “I have no comprehension or understanding of the legal system” is showing

      Stick to retail, lmao

      Sunday, 3 April 2016, 2:37 am
  • Jackie why don’t you put money in the gofundme account since your husband caused this family to have to pay many medical and funeral expenses. Williams mother is going to pay dearly. Quit saying you are married when you are not. You are full of nothing but lies, lies and more lies.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 8:25 pm
  • This piece of **** should not have been on the road period, a precious little child is dead period, enough said!

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 8:24 pm
    • i agree he shouldnt have been driving but the mother should have never had them kids out on the road that’s just pure stupidity.. accidents happen get over it

      Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:31 pm
  • I drive on that road. Can’t understand why Mom was out there with her children. Cars fly up and down that road. The young man who did this will have to carry this on his shoulders for the rest of his life. I know there’s probably more to this story than I know. but my heart goes out to everyone and prayers for each side of the family’s.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 7:34 pm
  • May this family find the comfort they need to get through this very difficult time and may Mommy and her Spencer make a full recovery.l also hope that that the family of Mr Perkins can find comfort because of the long road ahead with the judicial court system. Hope all turns out well for both familys.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 6:45 pm
  • Rest in peace lil sweet girl . Praying for you all

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 6:35 pm
  • Im sorry but for everyone calling Mr.Perkins a scumbag or criminal, you have no grounds to make that accusation. A child died, it’s awful and my prayers are sent for that poor girl and everyone who will be crushed by her passing but he was not drunk or stoned or high on narcotics. Should he have been driving without a license, absolutely not, but this is an example of a routine accident that resulted in an awful tragedy .. again prayers for the family may that young girl rest in peace and that mother find the strength to overcome such a loss

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 6:12 pm
  • Rest in Peace Ava. And to the Thomas family ~ i pray for both Lacey and Spencers physical and mental healing. To the 6 year old and the father of these babies, my thoughts are with you in your time of griefing for one, and prayers of healing for the rest of your family. As far as Perkins goes ~ this is a very tragic accident, could it had been avoided? I don’t really know. I accidentally hit a kid when I was just a kid, because he ran out to cross the street. He was fine, and I was shook up, but the fact that Perkins was driving without a license is what got him arrested. His previous arrests have nothing to do with this. And no i don’t know him, but my heart is sad for him too, because he will live with this for the rest of his life!

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 5:57 pm
    • You are about the only person with some commonsense on here

      Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:24 pm
    • Well said momof3

      Tuesday, 2 May 2017, 8:19 pm
  • Thought EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW
**I learned through ***, that, the mommy and children were walking alongside (Northbound I think..) the road. This “GUY”, was traveling SOUTH!!
(I tried giving benefit of the doubt earlier…wondering if maybe kids were in road, and he didn’t see them til too late, idk) ANYHOW- He was “test driving” (obviously to ME, he was REALLY pushing it, testing it out..!)
So, he didn’t just cross the line for a second, or something, he plowed across the oncoming lane and into the grass on the OPPOSITE SIDE!!
    SMDH.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 5:23 pm
    • That makes it all the more worse, although it can’t get any worse than the
death of one child and another in critical condition hanging onto life!

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:55 pm
      • I think you all should be more worried about paying for that little boy and his mother and their family then damning the other family out did you guys forget about the most important part of the story while fueling each other’s hate….

        Tuesday, 2 May 2017, 8:16 pm
  • Another thing to consider: If as the article states. his mother was letting him test drive the vehicle, doesn’t she possibly bear a portion of burden for this tragedy? I wonder if she could make the case she didn’t know her son had had his drivers license suspended?

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 4:39 pm
    • In Florida it is illegal to let someone unlicensed drive a vehicle. She is responsible too, if Jackie is telling the truth. The mother let William put the car in her name, the car he bought with tax money because she knew her son was a licensed driver and the car couldn’t go in his name. Her son’s license has been suspended before and he’s been charged in the past with knowingly driving with his license suspended. Why wasn’t it put in Jackie’s name? They both have numerous judgments against them and owe money. The only thing worse then a deceitful person is one who is deceitful when a life is lost. Jackie has no remorse for what William did or she would not be saying he has kids that want Daddy home. The Thomas family want Ava home too but instead she’s now home with our heavenly father.
Jackie makes me so sick I blocked her on Facebook. I can’t stand a person who sticks up for two murders of innocent people.

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 8:22 pm
    • Please tell us about the other murder/manslaughter or whatever?

  • Let HIM build a SIDEWALK ,at his cost! ALL THE WAY down that street, instead of rehab and room and board!

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 4:24 pm
  • There are no sidewalks there. What irks me is the mother was pulling her children in a red wagon. How did he not see them prior to the cig blowing out. That alone is enough to show this guy does not care.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 4:16 pm
  • Prayer for the Family…this is so, sad :'(

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 3:40 pm
  • I’m NOT defending the guy- I’m making a point- I GUARANTEE some of the judgemental hate being spewed, is coming from people that probably: eat while driving, look at their phones from time to time, maybe turn around to check your child in the back seat-
Was the driver SO DISTRACTED with this cig, that he went OFF the road striking the family, OR was the family walking in the street itself or along the shoulder? Where were the mom and kids, exactly?

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 3:37 pm
    • Who the hell cares where they were walking, the man had NO RIGHT TO BE DRIVING!!!

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:45 pm
      • you need to chill Justice,, Accidents happen the family should not have been walking on the road and he should not have been driving shit happens lessons learn.

      Thursday, 7 April 2016, 4:21 pm
  • My heart goes out to this family that was struck and the loss of little Ava.. May you rest in peace… As for the POS driver, He doesn’t deserve anything but lethal injection.. He should not have been test driving a car period, he has no license.. WTF is wrong with Hernando County giving him a 30k bond?? Next we will read that he bonded out and absconded.. SMH

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 3:34 pm
  • He’s not a thug he’s a person a good father! Who feels horrible and obviously paniced .. I’m not say he doesn’t deseve jail time but don’t say someone’s going to hell especially when you don’t know them. Only God can judge. I can’t imagine if I was in his situation how hard it would be to have something like this happen and everyone look at you like your a monster. This is a horrible time for the family that lost their baby God bless them and may they have the strength to overcome this tragedy.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 3:27 pm
    • While God may judge this negligent driver in the afterlife; he will in fact, be judged in this life, for his actions in the here and now. That is why there are laws and courts. To hopefully protect the rights of the innocent and hold responsible those who break the laws and cause heartbreak and harm.

Hopefully this murderous driver’s son, has a mother who is physically and financial competent to raise the child; as the father likely is neither, nor has prospects to be able to be a law abiding, financially responsible and involved father, based on his life choices thus far.

No one is perfect however most have the potential to be good, decent, responsible individuals. However some seem to be unwilling to accept responsibilities, unwilling to live within the bounds of the law, forever causing problems and expecting others to clean up their messes, rationalize their actions and overlook the negative consequences of their foolish, selfish behavior.

In the end, however irresponsible, selfish, cowardly or simply stupid the actions of Perkins, he still has a son.

That cannot be said of Thomas family, who mourn the loss of their precious baby girl, Ava and pray their wife and mother, Lacey and little bother, Spenser, are healed and soon back home.

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 6:11 pm
      • N Lee, I agree with every comment you made on here!
Just to add one more thing to what you’ve already said, the little boy is
        still in CRITICAL CONDITION!
I pray he will recover, I can’t imagine what it would feel like to lose two
        children. 🙁

Let us also remember this man has quite the rap sheet.

I am so sorry for the loss of this poor little girl and her family, such a tragedy. 🙁

        Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:41 pm
    • He portraits himself as a thug and he is a thug. No it’s not only God who can judge. This killer will be judged in a court of law and we all hope he gets the maximum sentence.

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 8:47 pm
  • Prayers for everyone involved. Both families will have to grieve over this tragic accident.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 3:14 pm
  • Earl, there is no need to say hateful things like that about other human beings. Yes, what happened was tragic but accidents happen and people make mistakes. Praying for everyone envolved.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 3:08 pm
    • Mistakes do happen, sometimes with life altering, tragic results.

It seems the negligent driver willingly and willfully choose to drive a car, while his license to drive had been suspended He should never have been behind the wheel of a vehicle, for any reason or any distance. His stupid and selfish choices directly caused the death of an innocent, little child, grievous harm to her mother and brother, traumatically scared her older sister and ripped the fabric of her family.

With luck the justice system will find him guilty and he will serve long, hard time in prison. He might regret his selfish choices, his family might rationalize his selfish actions, but none of that alters the consequences of his choices and actions. A little girl is dead because of him. Let he and his kin keep that in their minds.

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 4:24 pm
      • Amen to that.

        Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:30 pm
      • So if he had a valid license what would you be calling him then?

        Monday, 1 May 2017, 11:50 pm
      • His licence was not yet suspended it was in the purposes of being suspended and yes he should be punished because he made a huge mistake in how he delt with his dropped cigarette that cause a horrifying accident the out come was undeniably the worst that could have happened and he has to live with that for the rest of his life but come on you people are so judgmental it makes me sick it is not like he was high or drunk it really was an unfortunate ACCIDENT but an ACCIDENT out was so stop being so judgmental…. And really if like to see just how many of you on here saying what a horrible person he is have driven after having a drink I bet more than half so really you are much worse than him you have just been lucky an I bet at least half of you Call yourselves Christians and yet choose to judge this person when you know nothing of him other than this tragic accident one moment in his life and how many of you if your license was taken day cause you couldn’t afford a fine I would bet my life more than a couple of you would drive so let’s actually try to be Christians and be understanding and forgiving because he I’m sure will never forgive him self an that will be a life long punishment in itself or at least stop being so judgmental because that is not our job for all you know this man feeds the hungry YOU DON’T KNOW look in the mirror begot you damn someone to hell as you all so ignorantly put i…. And to Ava’s family I am so sorry for your loss and although I know you can never get over losing such a beautiful light from your life I hope you can once again in time find joy and through love find a way to continue on with the child you have left your beautiful daughter will never be forgotten. God bless you and your family. I will be praying for your son’s recovery.

        Tuesday, 2 May 2017, 8:09 pm
  • Why send him to an imaginary place called hell when you can send to a real place like prison?

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 2:24 pm
  • hopefully he will be charged if he doesnt have friends in the sheriffs office. I noticed lately Tom you been posting alot of things coming out of Brooksville sounds like it is a high crime area

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 2:18 pm
  • This piece of crap needs to stay behind bars for the rest of his life……..

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 2:13 pm
    • really…… his entire life behind bars for an accident. If he had intentionally plowed down innocent civilians maybe.. but an accident. come on woody dont be stupid

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:35 pm
  • amen Earl!

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 2:09 pm
  • Awe poor baby got burnt by his cigarette, too friggin bad. And how shi*** of a human being are you, you call your wife first instead of 911 to report the accident.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 2:07 pm
  • This was a senseless and unnecessary accident resulting in the loss of an innocent life, Ava Thomas and serious injuries to her mother and brother. Nothing can ever bring back Ava to her family. Nothing can ever undo the accident or completely mend the broken hearts of her family. All tragedies such as this leave a hole in the fabric that is a family.

With medical care and time, the bodies and spirits of her mother and brother will be healed and life will go on, but without a little girl who had barely begun to discover life and have dreams of what her future might hold.

I’m not familiar with this stretch of road, so perhaps someone with that knowledge can assist here.

Are there sidewalks along this road?

It seems to me that in general, sidewalks are not automatically included along streets, in this county. Granted the recent improvements along SR 50 and US 19 have included many miles of what have dubbed ‘sidewalks to nowhere’; yet sidewalks in areas with schools and housing are more often than not, absent.

Most areas even lack curbing, which would help help preserve the condition of the roadways.

This doesn’t in anyway lessen the responsibility of a distracted and or negligent driver. However it would appear to be another instance where a tragedy might have been avoided had there been a proper sidewalk for the benefit and more importantly, the safety and well being pedestrians.

Just as time will ease some of the pain of losing a child, it will always be there. The memories, the dreams, the laughter, the love, all will keep Ava forever in the hearts and minds of her family.

But I hope that the memories of the driver, never leave him. Let him always remember that he choose to drive, when he was legally prohibited from doing so. His selfish and careless actions took the life of an innocent child. Let that be forever etched into his memory.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 2:04 pm
    • Well said.

      Sunday, 3 April 2016, 2:54 pm
    • No sidewalks its a very rural road used to be known for meth and people tend to speed due to long stretch of road with hardly any traffic…

      Tuesday, 13 September 2016, 6:27 am
      • Yes how much Hughes Road but not known from if you’re in the wrong part of the county

        Wednesday, 28 September 2016, 2:49 pm
  • Heartbreaking. I’m sick of people making excuses for the criminals in the area. May Ava rest in peace and may Lacey and Spencer physically heal soon, and completely. Mentally, it ain’t gonna happen, sadly. For the daddy and husband. My prayers are with you all during this difficult time. The community is praying for you, and seeking justice for the horrific crime that was committed. There’s no excuse for the driver to have been behind the wheel, there is no way to justify it, Jackie. He killed an innocent little girl, and I hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law, then maybe he won’t be allowed to kill someone else, either by car or whatever he used in his most recent battery arrest.

And Jackie, that’s two people you love who have killed innocent people, in the last couple of days, while doing crimes. May they both rot in hell!!

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 2:03 pm
    • Two people? Tell us more about that, please?

      Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10:21 pm
  • Omg I’m so sorry for all involved the family of the child, may god watch over their littlest one and keep him safe. I cantvimagine the horror of that six year old girl please god watch over this family and don’t take any more of them away from the others.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 1:57 pm
  • This man should be charged with Vehicular Manslaughter. There were 2 crimes being committed during this incident that lead to the death of this child and destruction of the family. There are special places in hell for people like this thug and lets rush him to his spot.

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 1:55 pm
  • RIP little Ava! Prayers for the family and hopefully a full and speedy recovery for Mom and baby brother!

    Saturday, 2 April 2016, 1:54 pm
