DUI Driver Will Not Face Manslaughter Charge After Fatal Pedestrian Crash

HUDSON (PASCO) – A St. Petersburg man died last night after he was struck by vehicle while crossing US-19 on a bicycle.

According to officials, 49-year-old Grady Miles was riding east across US-19, north of Hudson Ave, when he traveled into the path of an SUV, driven by 25-year-old Ali Hazime of Holiday. Miles was struck by the SUV and died at the scene.

During the investigation, it was determined that Hazime was under the influence of Marijuana and later arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol for DUI.

Officials say Hazime will not be charged with manslaughter because he was not the cause of the crash.

  • Know your facts before you speak, the bicyclists was a drunk and a thief, check his rap sheet. It could’ve been you behind the wheel.

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 1:02 pm
    • Don’t talk about checking out rap sheets when Ali Hazime isn’t clean either. I’m all for marijuana being legal but I’m not for the opiates and junk that Ali Hazime has been in trouble with before when he lived in Michigan.

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 3:29 pm
      • You are a retard he never lived in Michigan learn your people

        Monday, 17 April 2017, 7:02 pm
  • Both are responsible here driver should not have been impaired and the bicyclist should not have been crossing at that area when the crosswalk is only a few yards south. So sorry for both of them.

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 12:38 pm
  • An aquaintance of mine was walking in Tampa while drunk. He stepped off the curb in front of a car & was killed. The driver there was not charged either because 1) dead man was drunk & stepped into traffic and 2) driver could not have foreseen it in time to stop. It’s the first time I have heard of marijuana related accident & they probably found it in driver’s car. To my knowledge there is no “breathalyzer” type test for marijuana. Found in car, driver confronted & admitted it. Such small amount (less than 5 grams???) he wasn’t arrested or driver so scared he admitted it. ALCOHOL KILLS MORE PEOPLE TO MY KNOWLEDGE. MAYBE BICYCLIST WAS DRUNK???

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 12:12 pm
    • Dope isn’t legal alcohol is, legalize dope and the dope deaths will skyrocket !!! Look at results from Colorado

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 1:04 pm

          Monday, 17 April 2017, 5:55 pm
          • Sorry says driver NOT arrested for manslaughter. I forgot manslaughter part

            Monday, 17 April 2017, 6:13 pm
          • Toni..grady was a drinker but if that kid wasnt buzzed up maybe he coulda prevented it all…it dont matter who was drunk or not a man lost his life and other man has to live with doing it..grady was an awesome guy and drunk or not didnt deserve to die…my prayers and thoughts are with grady tonight and im very saddened by this tragedy

            Monday, 17 April 2017, 8:22 pm
    • He was a local port richey crack head/alcoholic in the middle of the median drunk and jumped out in front of him

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 1:08 pm
    • I agree with you Unbelievable. I was going to comment that here it begins, throwing out that marijuana card now that it’s medically legal. The next step is recreational and the law figures they’ll start their damage campaign now. They had it right back in the days of prohibition ALCOHOL SHOULD BE ILLEGAL

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 2:59 pm
      • Lobbyists in same building in Washington with representatives keep alcohol legal with payoffs, campaign contributions, perks of all kinds.

        Monday, 17 April 2017, 5:59 pm
  • I guess pedestrians and cyclist having right of way goes out the window when you’re HIGH.

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 12:08 pm
    • Right of way????? in the middle of the median of the most deadliest road????when the cross walk is 10 feet ahead??? gtfo!!! riding a bike drunk with a 40 in his hand and all drugged up #learnyourfacts

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 2:34 pm
    • Cyclists must follow the same rules as cars. Glad you don’t ride a bike. Pedestrians have the right of way. They can’t prove when the marijuana was smoked. It stays in a persons system for quite some time, especially if they use it often.

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 3:16 pm
  • …..or maybe now we just have to pussyfoot around someone with a name like his.

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 12:06 pm
    • Your a racist let’s judge people cause of a name, you will make it far in life

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 2:44 pm
  • Huh? I don’t get it. The driver was impaired. Maybe the bicycle rider did move in front of the SUV, however, had the driver not been impaired, MAYBE he could have avoided hitting the man????

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 10:57 am
    • How do you dodge a crackhead drunk on a bicycle in the median of the most deadliest road especially when he has no reflector on bike or reflective gear

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 2:39 pm
      • Autopsy Toxicology could no way be determined that quickly. Obviously the dead guy couldn’t do a breathalyzer. So what’s your source of info and hows drunk & high? Maybe you?

        Monday, 17 April 2017, 4:58 pm
        • When the clerk at the gas station says he had been buying drinks there all day and night, and he had a 40 in his hand and he smelt like alcohol so…………

          Tuesday, 18 April 2017, 9:41 am
    • Seriously ? “If he wasn’t “impaired” maybe he could have avoided hitting the man” ! That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard ! First of all , marijuana is in your “system” for a good while !!!! Sometimes weeks !!! It doesn’t say he was smoking at the time of the accident nor that they found any evidence of him having marjauana on him! So who even exactly knows when he smoked !!! It could have been a day ago ! Also ! Lmfao I’m sorry but even sober it would have been impossible for someone to “avoid” this man!! He was crossing a MAIN HWY !!! Where the speed limit was most likely 45!!! It was a NIGHT, in the DARK!! No reflectors on the bike or nothing !!! So tell me how you think this could have easily been avoided ?!?

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 11:13 pm

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 10:45 am
    • But the drunk guy in the median of the most deadliest highway is perfectly fine!!! He jumped in front of the car without looking trying to drive a bicycle drunk. Weed did nothing in this situation, alcohol did yet again. But alcohol is perfectly legal lol you are dumb my friend!

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 2:38 pm
      • Again where does it say the driver of the bicycle was under the influence? If the man on the bike was under the influence which it doesn’t mention that it would be his fault but since the man in the car was the one with the DUI still the bikes fault. although I do believe it is the bikes fault but not because he was also a DUI cause it doesn’t say hey was.

        Monday, 17 April 2017, 4:56 pm
    • OMG NO! If we legalize it, people might smoke it!

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 4:17 pm
      • Monday, Dr. Joe segment has survey results on who, how many each segment of population & how often it is being smoked. Thought you might want to check it out. Also says parents more worried about kids smoking cigarettes.

        Monday, 17 April 2017, 6:09 pm
  • Maybe if he wasn’t high he could have had a quicker reaction time and could have prevented it.

    Monday, 17 April 2017, 10:20 am
    • Maybe if the drunk guy in the median of the deadliest road with no reflector wasn’t drunk and on crack he wouldn’t been in the median, I would love to see you dodge a crackhead drunk who is trying to ride a bike without looking at night and he is in dark with no reflector

      Monday, 17 April 2017, 2:42 pm
      • Where does it say the man on the bicycle was drunk or on crack? Did I miss that somewhere?

        Monday, 17 April 2017, 3:29 pm
        • Ask the cops that said it that was on the scene he is known in the area I think the cops would know a drunk crackhead

          Monday, 17 April 2017, 5:02 pm
          • “A quicker reaction time”?!? Like what ? Swerving at 45 MPH , flipping his car, or hitting someone else , because he tried to avoid the dude crossing a MAIN HWY at night IN THE DARK? Yeah makes a lot of sense smfh !!! Sober or NOT “avoiding” this man on the bike would have been merely impossible without hurting yourself or someone else ! Especially when the speed limit on US 19 is usually 45 MPH , depending on the area ! You also don’t know when he smoked !! Marajuana is in your system for a good while !! He could have smoked yesterday, or days ago!! Just like they tell yu , when yu live up north! If a deer jumps out in front of your car (which happens often up here!) not to try n avoid it (because you risk running off the road, injuring yourself, flipping your car , or hitting someone else !) . Either way there was no way he could have avoided this situation without injuring himself or other people !!

            Monday, 17 April 2017, 11:22 pm
        • I think # facts must be on drugs because they never said the guy that got killed was on any , DUH
