Neighbors Rescue Elderly Woman from House Fire, Three Dogs Perish
BROOKSVILLE – Thanks to selfless actions of a few residents who live on Wildwood Drive, an elderly woman survived a devastating house fire. But joy turned to sadness after it was discovered that the woman’s three dogs perished in the blaze.
According to officials, fire rescue responded to 19945 Wildwood Drive yesterday afternoon, where they discovered fire and smoke billowing from the residence. Rescue Personnel soon learned that neighbors rescued an elderly woman from the home, despite her struggles to stay and search for her dogs. Neighbors tried to reenter the home once the woman was safe but the fire and smoke were too intense. Sadly, once firefighters brought the blaze under control they discovered the woman’s dogs deceased inside the home.
The victim was treated at the scene for smoke related symptoms but she refused to be transported to a local hospital.
Fire Officials said in a statement, “due to these neighbors heroic efforts the life of their neighbor was surly saved.”
State arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
