Search for Missing Child Leads to Brooksville Area, Amber Alert Issued in Similar Case
REGIONAL – The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 9-year-old girl who disappeared over a week ago from her father’s home in Trinity.
Officials say Aaron Puyana returned home from work on February 7th to find that his ex-wife, 34-year-old Kristin Hooper had taken their daughter, Hailey Mae Puyana.
There has been no contact with Kristin since that day but officials believe she may be staying somewhere in the Brooksville Area.
Hailey is described as being 4’ 2” tall, 80 lbs., with brown hair and eyes.
Kristin has blonde hair, blue eyes, weighs 165 lbs., and is 5’ 6” tall.
Officials are asking anyone with knowledge of Kristin Hooper or Hailey Puyana is asked to contact authorities.
Although Hailey has been missing for over 7 days, an Amber Alert has not been issued because officials have classified the case as a custodial dispute.
A similar incident earlier this month led authorities to issue an Amber Alert for 2-year-old Bane Wheeler, after his father, Daniel Wheeler, took Bane from his daycare in Port Richey.
Amber Alerts are issued when children are missing and endangered but Daniel says he was in constant contact with officials throughout the ordeal and he believed he had the proper documentation to take custody of Bane.
Within hours of taking his son, Daniel met with authorities in Orlando and turned his son over to DCF after they determined he should temporarily go back with his mother.
That case is still pending in Pasco County Family Courts and no charges were filed against Daniel.
