BROOKSVILLE – A member of the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Command Parachute Team was rescued from a tree this evening, after at least three members landed in a wooded area near Benes Roush Road.
Around 9:45 p.m. this evening, Fire Rescue responded to 16709 Benes Roush Road at the request of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command. According to our sources, Rescue Personnel discovered one of the soldiers trapped high in a treetop and unable to free himself. Rescue Personnel were unable to deploy a ladder truck, due to limited access. A private tree service was called to the scene to assist with cutting the soldier free.
Within minutes of our first Live Facebook Report, Jon Harper, a professional tower climber and rescue worker, saw our report and responded to assist with the rescue. Soon after his arrival, Jon reported back that the soldier was free and uninjured.
A representative of the Special Ops Team met with RNRF at the scene but would only state that they were from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. For security reasons he asked that RNRF not video record the soldier as he exited the property. He was unable to comment on the nature of the operation that led to the mishap.

The airport at US 41 and Spring Hill drive gets a lot of use from military training. Certainly they were not aiming for a neighborhood in Brooksville but things happen and parachutists can and do drift off target. Hernando County does not add fluoride to the water supply.
That was my first thought.
Obviously they were training at night and Team Member overshot the Brooksville Regional Airport and got caught up in a tree. It happens, this is why they train!

HE WAS ALSO SPECIAL LIAISON IN PANAMA CANAL FOR THE U.S.Second, 2 (Two) cousins who have done IRAQ, IRAN & AFGHANISTAN. Among my deceaded relatives (cousins, uncles & aunts) are ARMY, NAVY, MARINE & AIR FORCE MEMBERS. MY FATHER WAS ARMY. MY FIRST HUSBAND AIR FORCE, A GOOD FRIEND & BEST MAN AT SECIND WEDDING WAS FRONT LINE MEDIC IN VIET NAM. I thank God every day to have freedoms they fought for. I’m proud that the US military uses our county for training, and I’m thankful for the service men and women throughout the country. They have to train somewhere, so why not welcome those who sacrifice so much to serve us instead of making fun of a mishap during jumps? I’m just glad he wasn’t hurt. As the parachuting troop said it was classified, none of you have the need to know. In fact, you knowing just this much puts our national security at risk. You WILL all commit suicide INSTANTLY!! I hear it was a high altitude jump in a jungle like setting…They train to practice and learn the goal is not to get injured…It would have been a.little.different if is was in a war zone. I just can’t believe the ignorance and disrespect of people who call themselves Americans. I suggest they grab a parachute and jump. Maybe, less the parachute and a little push is in order. Guy E.
