After running our story on September 11th, community outrage forced the School Board to take action, and as a result, 61-year-old Mildred Rodgers was booted from the bus and reassigned to a desk job.
The decision was well received from the community, but after we reveal what was shared with us today, residents may start marching towards the District’s headquarters, pitchfork and torch in hand.
Earlier today, RNRF received a tip that Mildred Rodgers was back behind the wheel of a Hernando County School Bus, and after just two days on the job, was involved in another bus crash. Sources say Rodgers collided with a mailbox during her route this morning, but officials haven’t disclosed the full details of the incident.
Hernando County School’s Spokesperson, Karen Jordan says “Ms. Rogers was reinstated as a driver. She was involved in a minor accident involving a mailbox. The Transportation Dept. has replaced the damaged mailbox and is taking additional steps to resolve the issue.”
I asked Jordan “Will Dr. Romano step in and do something about this situation before Mildred Rodgers seriously injures or kills a student in Hernando County?” Dr. Romano did not reply to my question but Jordan said “What I can share is that the mailbox incident will go before the Safe Driver Committee (as all incidents do) and they will follow district policy and procedure in making a determination.”
Law Enforcement did not conduct a crash investigation, so Rodgers will not receive a Uniform Traffic Citation from any agency.

I was outraged by the original reports! I can’t believe she’s back driving.
Thankful that no one was injured.
I would have to see the accident report from all accidents to make a decision on Ms. Mildred’s driving. She has been driving a bus for many many years and never had a serious accident, only minor things like mailboxes and tree limbs that I’ve heard of while getting out of the way of the wonderful drivers in Spring Hill. I know that feeling very well.

If memory serves, she was arrested earlier this year for battery but victim dropped charges. Plus didnt she get busted smoking on bus and several other non-accident write ups!?!?
Line should not be judging her. Had anyone else offered to take the position? The school board is always looking for drivers. I personally have driven a school bus and don’t wish to Do so again. I love children but don’t wish to take their lives in my hands and try to dodge the snowbirds at the same time. No thank you.
Praying for Mildred’s continued good health and mental health putting up with the difficult children in the bus along with difficult driving conditions.

this picture was taken at my children’s bus stop .. There is a reason the news had to get involved my son’s were continually bullied to the point in one bus drive to the school my son was punched in the face 3 times on several different occasions … the bus would not arrive home with my children until sometimes 15- 20 minutes late the children would tell her she was going the wrong way she would tell them to shut up that bus number has a file that is filled with complaints from parents and yes her position has been replaced just as soon as this aired and I am so thankful for that my kids no longer get bullied or punched in the face .. so continue to pray for that mildred … and include my kids that have been physically hurt due to the lack of responsibility that she choose to ignore.. that is my precious cargo you are carrying back and forth to school everyday and yet allowed for months and my kids were to scared to say anything to me little did I know my kids were getting bullied and punched in the face and this was all caught more than once on camera on the bus… so than you have all that

We have jobs and don’t live in mommy and daddy’s basement you POS neckbeard. She’s too old to be driving a school bus,especially with her horrendous driving record. But then again it looks like we’re going to put 70 year old in control of our country. I wouldn’t want a 70 year old managing my McDonald’s.

My children rode on her bus last year and I was quite pleased when she was taken off of their route. She speeds, she got pulled over for driving over the yellow line, and she texts while driving the bus. I am sure she is a loverly person and a nice woman. Buthe, this is not about her character. The safety of our children needs to come first - every time. She is no longer able to safely drive us bus, so it is time for her to stop. Give her a desk job if you please, but don’t risk the safety of our children any longer.

You know you don’t need a CDL to drive a school bus that carries children that’s not right they should have a medical certificate
You do need a CDL class B license to drive a bus with a S endorsement.
Not only do you need a CDL you also have to pass a medical exam. Not sure where you get your information Crazy B… maybe from Mr. Lemon’s columns.

This is at my children’s bus stop the bus driver allowed my child to be bullied punch in the face on more than one occasion not only that but the days she went the wrong way she would tell my kids to shut up the bus aide who my son sat with one day had to crawl under the seat to get off the bus my children no longer ride the bus

Ive received easily over 10 phones through out the year that bus drivers are needed so apply now, a mailer for school bus driver job and a couple inserts in my kids papers about bus drivers needed so they must really really be hurting for school bus drivers. google search shows the pay isnt too bad either. I had a limousine company in this county for years and it wasnt rocket science. Why the shortage?

I read many newspaper articles, Bay News 9 is one of the papers I frequent. I have never had the privilege of being ‘in’ one Tom Lemon’s articles before, nice of you to assume so though.
Although, I have written a few that were published, but not on his site.
I have my opinions, just like you do. I care about those I work with (yes, I am a bus driver) and I care about my job, the children I drive and we all watch as driver’s are brought before the board when an accident occurs. When you think about how many buses are on the road daily, how many stops, days, drivers and miles that are driven (even if you do it on a per county assessment) the accidents that do happen are rare. WHEN they do happen points are assigned if the driver is at fault, action is taken.
You know what you read through the media, believe what is said without question. Persecute before any fair trial is given.
I hope that IF I ever am featured in an article such as this, someone, like many out there… will understand.

Not yet. The School Board refuses to comment on controversial topics. I can only get a quote from Dr. Romano when there are positive things to report.

She was driving my daughters bus….i called transportation and complained and they took her off the bus. I cannot believe they put her behind the wheel of another bus. how long is it going to take before its not just a minor accident?
