CRYSTAL RIVER (CITRUS) – A hit and run crash nearly claimed the life of a Citrus County man last night, after he was struck from behind while driving on Citrus Ave.
According to the victim’s sister, Cyndee Cason, her brother 33-year-old Clayton Cason was traveling southbound on Citrus Ave, approaching the intersection of W. Tall Pines Court, when he noticed a vehicle “barreling down the road behind him.” Clayton thought the vehicle was going to pass but instead the driver rear ended Clayton’s SUV, causing him to drive off the roadway and strike two utility poles, and a tree. Damage to Clayton’s SUV was so severe that it was almost unrecognizable.
Cyndee says her brother was pinned in the vehicle, but despite having a collapsed lung, broken ribs and sternum, Clayton somehow managed to free himself an crawl out.
Clayon was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center where is currently listed in stable condition.
Cyndee says the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident but at this point they have no leads.
Cyndee says the accident occurred around 9:15 p.m. and is asking for anyone with information regarding the crash to contact the Florida Highway Patrol immediately.

God bless him
His beard is the source of his power. Honestly, God bless him, and I hope he recovers well.
This made him laugh. Thank you fellow beard man. 🙂
Hope they find the person that did this!
God Bless you Clayton. I’m so sorry this has happened to you. I hope you make a quick recovery. Karma will pay that irresponsible driver who caused this a seriously well deserved visit.
What is wrong with people? Wishing you all the best Clayton!! Hopefully they will find who the person who did this.
THERE IS A CAR OUT THERE WITH A TON OF FRONT END DAMAGE AND NOT TO FAR AWAY !!!!!!!! I AM SURE HIS RADIATOR WAS DESTROYED !!!!! 🙁
I think clayton is part cat but damn it brother you need to slow down on burning through your nine lives.
God speed on a healthy and speedy recovery
He did not free himself from the truck. There were three guys & a female that pulled him from the truck that had down power lines on top it and something leaking. The suspect that ran away from scene after talking with people who stopped to help was driving a silver/Greg pickup truck with serve damage to the front left.
Thanks to all who help .I deeply appreciate it. You probably saved our son’s life. God bless you Fred and Connie Cason
My little brother Tyler Ray Young and one of his friends are the ones that pull him out
My little brother Tyler young and one of his friends are the ones that freed him
hey y’all I’m starting a go fund me page to help him and his family out while he’s recovering I’ll post the links on his facebook page and etc when it’s done….. If you know him then you know he’ll get right back to work for his family despite his own health…… 😕 so maybe we can all ease the burden even if only a little bit…. ❤❤
His girlfriend already started one
proper detective work will solve this crime w/ paint chip from fleeing vehicle and or description from victim and searching all available video of local establishments closest to scene of accident. The family should NOT wait for Sheriff Department, but go visit every possible place that has video and get it secured immediately. Good Luck and hope the person responsible serves 100% of their time in prison w/ No Parole and I don’t give a damn if they were drunk, are a drunk and or a drug addict. Zero tolerance for fleeing the scene of a major crime like this…
Does anyone have the cars description.
Gmc Sierra silver/gold color newer model
citrus ave again // is this the new us 19 // see so many cops drivin up and down there // theres got to b a trail of radiator fluid or something // or someones vehicle is messed up sittin in there driveway // anyways GOD BLESSTO FAMILY just remember KARMA can serve up in a mighty big plate also so turn your self in F- - - TARD
I dont see any rear end damage the windows on the side are not broken out
Crazy b., reread 2nd paragraph. Speeding vehicle caused him to drive off road and hit 2 power poles. Pictures are not showing the rear of vehicle when ALL DEVASTATING DAMAGE DESTROYED FRONT ENGINE COMPARTMENT. This is due to being propelled off road by speeding vehicle that hit him. May God and his angels watch over and heal this man. Family and friends love will assist in recovery.
thats bc you arent standing directly behind the vehicle and probably behind a keyboard instead. point being?
I agree actually. I did see a comment about another vehicle with damage but why didn’t anyone get a tag number or detain the person if they stopped? I see no rear damage but that does not mean there isn’t any. Regardless I hope karma prevails
Not only are you crazy, you are stupid too. Here’s a picture of the back of the truck. Now, why don’t you go look for the guy who hit him? His name is Corey Thomas and his newer truck that hit the back of Claytons Expedition. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10203114793827140&set=pcb.10203114795867191&type=3&theater

Hmm..he may be connected to all that in the hospital but the SUV damage and the amount of cuts you should probably see on his body just don’t match up…that’s none of my business though
he has an iv, telemetry, oxygen, and a blood pressure cuff for vitals. thats not consistent a mvc? most of that is pretty standard with a general admit hospitalization. watching too much tv where theres a serious trauma and the actor is hooked just an ekg monitor? ugh smh..
I do tend to agree with you. I’ve seen the damage a wreck like this does to a persons body and Clayton’s aren’t as bad, thank God. Before FoodforThought jumps on me, I’ll let them know I work in the medical field and the bag you see on the patients face is called an Ambu bag, which is used for artificial respiration. They are usually used when the lungs have been injured.
That’s a nonrebreather oxygen mask actually.
as i mentioned oxygen.. not anything specific like a nasal cannula just something oxygen related.. I made the comment bc people see all that and think wow what is all that. luckily he didnt end up on a vent.
Omg prayers are with u Clayton. God bless the whole family. U guys have been through enough
Thank you all for all the comments, and prayers.
where is the photo of the rear end damage? something like that would have disabled the other vehicle rather quickly.
