Sheriff’s Deputy Charged with DUI, Nearly Ran Over FHP Trooper

HUDSON (PASCO) – A now former Pasco County Sheriff’s Deputy is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, after she nearly ran over a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper on US-19 while driving home from a night of drinking.

According to officials, Sheriff’s Deputies and Troopers were conducting a fatal crash investigation at the intersection of US-19 and Hudson Ave around 2:40 a.m. this morning, when they noticed a dark colored sedan approaching the scene at a high rate of speed. Deputies and Troopers began waving their flashlights to warn the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Katrina Pereira, who ran over two cones and nearly struck a Trooper before coming to a stop.

When contact was made with Pereira, Troopers noticed an odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle. A passenger claimed it was because he had been drinking but Pereira later admitted to having drinks at a local bar. While one of the Troopers was running Pereira’s information, she suddenly drove through the fatality scene and parked next to the Troopers patrol car.

Pereira failed a series of field sobriety exercises and was placed under arrest for DUI.

Pereira has been terminated from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. One of Pasco’s finest LOL. But the sad part is they can shoot to kill us, they are only required to have a GED and cover up and back each other up when they get in wrecks that are their fault.

    1. She is three classes away from a BA degree. Deputies love their community and will only take a persons life if they or someone in deadly danger. She is a great person and made the wrong decision to drive after drinking. We all held to the same standards as community we serve. Unfortunately this line of work you cannot have an arrest and still work with PSO.

  2. Raggedy could have killed somebody could have killed one of those Troopers and I guarantee she was a hard when she was on patrol glad she’s off of it

  3. Glad the FHP wasn’t injured, or any other innocent person on her fun drunken ride! Kudos to Pasco County Sherriff for firing her immediately. Where oh where do they find these pieces of trash that can carry a gun and can shoot us?? More screening and training for all Depities, this is very scary for ALL OF US.

  4. Come on guys, she has a tough job and just as much right to party as the next guy/girl…but driving was a pretty irresponsible, stupid thing to do for a cop. Shame on you young lady.

  5. So much for her career, and almost any that she might choose. I wonder what she was thinking when she had to have just one more drink last night. Too bad. What a waste. You who are dissing her…..In your life, you’ve never had a time when you shouldn’t have been driving?

    1. WHO ARE ANY OF YOU TO JUDGE?!?! Do you lead perfect lives?? Have you ever made a mistake??? No one is perfect people are human they make mistakes just like I’m willing to bet each and eveyone of you have! You are all bashing her why dont you get a life? obviously if this is your entertainment you don’t have one anf It’s discusting how you can make comments about someone like all of you are so innocent !

      1. Sorry, but she WAS a cop and knew the law better than most. Matter of fact, she only needed common sense to figure out she shouldn’t drive. This isn’t about anyone else on this thread being “innocent”, it’s about her disregard for other’s safety by getting behind the wheel. Stop trying to defend something that’s so un-defendable. BTW, no one is entertained by alcoholics, especially when they’re cops. How about you get your head together instead of telling others to “get a life”.

    2. Thank you, I am glad the deputies and Troopers were not harmed. For those who are running their mouths without thinking. Although she was a deputy she is still human. Deputies and police officers are not above the law nor do most think they are. They too do not always think rational before making every decision, that’s why they are called human beings because they live and breath just like all the finger pointing people I have read making comments. Look in the mirror before opening your mouth…Ask yourself “Have I ever done anything wrong that someone else in society might think is wrong”. If you can do that and honestly say you have never done anything that might or could be offensive then you not human.

As for the comment about “I guess they didn’t try and cover this one up”. I want to say the Sheriff and men and women of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office are among some of the finest people you could have serving and protecting the citizens of Pasco County. Instead of making off comments you as a community member should support the agency, not bad mouth it. Remember you aren’t doing the job to protect, make split second decisions that could be deadly and I doubt you are willing to die for someone you don’t even know if it came down to it.

This is National Law Enforcement week take a trip to the sheriff’s office or when you see them on the street to thank them for what they really to for all.

      1. Thank you for your input. Not everyone knows what its like being a police officer and until they do they need to keep the opinions to facts and not be Monday morning quarter backers.

        1. The fact of the matter is that it shouldn’t matter if she was a detention deputy or not!!! Drinking and driving is illegal and wrong!! She and anyone else who does such a thing needs to have some consequence for the action.

      2. You got to be kidding me. There are so many stories like this one involving this agencies officers. And saying THEY DON’T ALWAYS THINK RATIONAL BEFORE MAKING DECISIONS CAUSE THEY ARE HUMAN. WHAT THE HELL!!!!! That was the worst to thing you could have ever said about an officer that carries a weapon and MUST make calls immediately. Maybe you yourself should think before you speak.

    1. To - no excuse. In NY,she would be on administrative leave pending the outcome of the charges.Full pay, accruing vacation time and pension time.
With a halfway decent lawyer it won’t go to trial for at least two years.Maybe cop a plea to a lesser charge, maybe have it thrown out, whatever.Worse comes to worse, she sues for her job back, and at least gets a settlement.Very likely as no one was injured. ……

      1. Yes unfortunately i did and I was unable to edit it once I noticed however it just shows your level of maturity for actually commenting on it… In response to the person stating that there are people defending her because if her job, well I personally don’t care if she was the president of the United States or a Dunkin Donuts employee (and I don’t mean any disrespect to a d&d employee by any means jist an example) she is human regardkess what position she helf! We all make mistakes in life and shouldn’t be trashed or judged by anyone! I’m sure she is suffering enough why don’t you show some respect by keeping your opinions to yourselves. Like the saying goes if you have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all!!!

        1. Do you have spell check?? Just is spelled “just” not “jist”. Regardkess is “regardless” and your i should be capitalized. (: Proof read please and watch for those little red lines under the word. “helf??” or are you trying to say “has”?? smdh..

  6. Sorry buddy drinking and driving is not a mistake, you made your bed now lie in it. Once you decide to drink and drive you are now a problem to society and yourself, too bad she had to lose her job to learn SD uch a valuable lesson…

    1. It can be a mistake. You do not know her life, what she is dealing with, or her state of mind. So unless you know her physically, you can’t really say that she was in the right state of mind or not when making said mistake. People do stupid stuff all the time because of liquor. So unless you have never made one single mistake under the consumption of alcoholic beverages… Then maybe you should reexamine your statement. And if you dont drink then you dont have any say because you have never been a situation involving an alcoholic beverage. We all make mistakes when drinking what is technically a legal drug… Whether it be a big mistake or a little it all just depends… But you shouldnt trash talk someone when there is a 100% chance you’ve made stupid mistakes too.

  7. I dont know the girl and I’m not saying she was right… But she’s human. Dont forget that cops, firefighters, CO’s ,FHP, and sheriff deputies are all human. Just because she made a mistake doesn’t mean that people should trash talk her over tom’s blog. I do believe she was wrong in doing what she did, but when you know the line of work they are in and how much more they have to deal with… Then you shut your mouth because a lot of them are good people… Just dealing with stuff so the rest of us don’t have too.

    1. She’s not wrong?????? Really???? Drinking and driving is Wrong no matter what job you have .what would have happened if she killed someone? I guarantee if she wasn’t a cop you would be Bad mouthing her right all with the rest.

      1. Did you read what I said. I never said she wasnt wrong. I said I’m not saying she was Right, because yes she was in the wrong. Read before you comment. And no I wouldn’t be bad mouthing her because I’m a person that realizes mistakes are made because she is human. Take the badge and the uniform away she is human. I respect them just like I would respect you if this was about you… Because you are a human and you make mistakes just like she does. Just like the mistake of not reading what I really said.

    2. You are on point. Lets just stone her and drag her down even more. She has no job and maybe has lost friends and family.Maybe we should hope and give her support that she needs. We are all one step away of doing something wrong. I am not Perfect and i think you are not also. To the Lady we are talking about. Keep your head high and do what you need to do to show people you are still a good person.

  8. Wow…… It’s really funny that there are some ppl sticking up for her. If she wasn’t a cop then every last one of you would be saying throw the book at her dumb ass. What’s good for 1 is good for ALL. NO MATTER WHAT JOB YOU HAVE. she fuc*ed up now she has to deal with it. But ill bet she gets a tiny slap on the wrist

    1. Nobody is sticking up for her in her actions. She should be charged and she should get in trouble. Nobody ever said that she shouldnt, but we all shouldn’t be jerks and comment mean things just because she’s a cop or was a cop. People make mistakes, and we shouldn’t just talk shit because she’s a cop. Which is what a lot of people are doing. Its not about respecting the badge or the uniform. Its about respecting each other, and knowing we are all human. Imagine how you would feel it was you or one of your loved ones on blast on here. I have coworkers who have had rnrf do reports on them or their loved ones… And they understood they made a mistake and it was dumb, but they dont deserve to be trashed by the public to make them feel even worse. People kill themselves over stuff like this. And unless you personally know someone with depression or deals with harsh situations like cops, firefighters, and DCF workers do then you dont really know the pain of there job. I’m just saying we should be mindful when opening our mouths because something you say could make someone with PTSD or severe depression kill themselves. I’m not saying she has that because I dont know here but trying to be mindful of others is good in all aspects of life.

      1. You seem to be defending her actions. All I’m saying is when you become an officer of the law you are held to higher standards. It might not be right but it’s the truth. As far as knowing someone in that field my 2 uncle’s are Leo. I know if your depressed or going through anything they get offered more help them anyone BECAUSE of the stress level they deal with. Long story short she made a BAD CHOICE and now should have 2 deal with the consequences just like the rest of us.amd I do apologize I miss read your other comments, I thought you said she “wasn’t wrong ” my mistake.

  9. You reap what you sew…. no one has a right to endanger innocent people …. least of al those that are paid well to protect us. They should throw her in jail!

  10. Oh you mean that “legal” alcohol ruined someone’s life? I mean I thought it was only illegal drugs that are to blame? How about that??? Sad so young to ruin her career, well maybe Lollipops needs some new talent.

  11. the only reason why this wasnt covered up by the almighty Nocco is because FHP was involved, Pasco county is one of the most corrupt depts. i have ever dealt with and it only got worse since Nocco was elected

    1. Finally someone posts that she was detention deputy (jail guard) and not patrol. BIG DIFFERENCE in training and responsibility. Still shouldn’t drink and drive but not a cop.

  12. Its funny about not judging, why comment at all - thats used to shut down the conversation. We make judgments all the time, about everything. I see a someone leaning against a wall outside a liquor store, I step to avoid a possible drunk. With all of the media attention and communication about DUI I am out of compassion for these people. They should know better especially since in her former professional life she has to deal folks like herself. Maybe she just needs a hug, and since she is a women we can just let her go.

Let’s stop judging everyone, even Osama had bad days!

  13. Yes she was a detention deputy but she was a horrible one at that. They are all wanna be real cops so every single one of them is on a power trip. Treating inmates like trash. Judging them b4 they were convicted. Karma …….
