For map buffs in Hernando County, a fascinating commercial website showed up in a Google News alert Wednesday. The site has ownership maps and aerials covering the entire county in 1964, three years before the Spring Hill development began.
While the site offers full-size maps and photos for sale individually or collectively, it also allows casual viewers to zoom in and get a better look on the site itself. We made screen captures of three maps and two aerials, a full county map of ranges, townships and sections, and maps and aerials showing the area that became Spring Hill. The emptiness of the area 48 years ago is a stark contrast to the urbanized mini-city it has become today.
The maps and photos can be found at www.historicmapworks.com.
