SPRING HILL – Two men were nearly shot this morning after they interrupted thieves attempting to break into their vehicle on Danforth Road.
The victims, who wished not to be identified, say they stepped outside of their home around 4:00 a.m. this morning to find at least two suspects rummaging through their vehicle. The suspects fled but the two men located them a short distance away at the intersection of Danforth Road and Laredo Ave. That’s when the suspects fired several shots at the victims, forcing them to flee back into the safety of their home.
It is not known at this time if there have been any arrests in connection with the shooting.
Investigators were seen using metal detectors to search for shell casings behind a residence on the northeast corner of Laredo Ave and Danforth Road.
There are unconfirmed reports that a crime scene surrounding a vehicle at the Spring Hill Library may be related to the shooting.
There are no reports of injuries at this time.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis is expected to hold a news conference this afternoon to discuss recent violent crime and issue “warning to criminals.”
