BROOKSVILLE – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a string of overnight commercial burglaries that targeted at least three mobile wireless retailers.
According to sources, around 3:00 a.m. this morning, three suspects smashed through the glass doors of Cricket Wireless, AT&T Wireless, and Verizon Wireless; all of which are located on Cortez Blvd, in the Mariner Square Shopping Plaza.
Deputies located the suspect’s vehicle, a black Camaro, traveling in the area of Cortez Blvd and Nightwalker Road. Sources say spike strips were deployed to disable the vehicle but that information has not been confirmed. Once the vehicle came to a stop all three suspects fled on foot.
Around 9:30 a.m., RNRF received information that three black males were knocking on doors in the Highpoint Subdivision, located just a few miles east of where the suspect vehicle was abandoned. RNRF spoke to the gate guard who said the three men had just walked eastbound towards Mariner Blvd. RNRF utilized the access road that runs parallel to Cortez Blvd, where we soon spotted the trio sitting on a bench at the Weeki Weshee Car Wash. At the same time, several deputies pulled in and made contact with the suspects. While deputies were conducting their interviews, the car wash manager told RNRF that the three men entered the building and were acting extremely nervous, prior to our arrival.
None of the men provided identification to deputies during the investigation, so a supervisor responded with a Rapid I.D. fingerprint reader. Law Enforcement Officers utilize the device in the field, to scan a suspect’s fingerprints, which is then run through AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System).
It is not known at this time if a match was discovered in today’s burglary case; however, moments after running the scan, all three suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
A representative with Verizon could not comment on the details of the case; however, he did say that the men were unable to gain entry into the store. The front door and a side window were severely damaged but it did not completely shatter.
Carlos Santiago, owner of Cricket Wireless say the thieves got away with at least $5,000 dollars-worth of merchandise; including, iPhones, iPads, and Galaxy display models.
AT&T store clerk, Sarah Dahns, tells RNRF that she received a call early this morning that a burglary had occurred at her store. Dahns says she doesn’t believe the thieves got away with a lot of merchandise but she was unable to provide an estimate. “We’ve got a lot of cleaning up to do,” says Dahns but she was happy to hear that the suspects may be in custody.
Officials have not released a statement regarding the burglaries but sources say the suspects possibly traveled from the Orlando area, just like the suspects who conducted the organized automotive dealership thefts, several weeks ago.

Omg! This morning my daughter told me she seen 3 black young men walking down Nightwalker (where we live) while out with the dogs. She wanted me to keep an eye out as the kids cross the street to neighbors to catch bus. The kids told the neighbor to watch out for them also.
