Sympathetic Victim Gives Burglary Suspect a Drink of Water Before Calling 911
BROOKSVILLE – A burglary suspect is behind bars today after he broke into a home on Sandy Drive for what officials say was a drink of water.
According to officials, deputies responded to 14505 Sandy Drive after the victims called 911 to report a burglary in progress. Officials say the victims were sleeping when they woke to the sound of glass breaking in the kitchen. When the male victim went to investigate, he located the suspect standing in the kitchen. The suspect told the victim that he just needed a drink of water and said “my mother sent me.” The victim gave the suspect a glass of water and then advised that he was going to call the Sheriff’s Office. The suspect left the residence but was captured a short distance away at the intersection of Sunshine Grove Road.
During an interview with Deputies, the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Bryan Andrew Street admitted to breaking into the victim’s home but didn’t remember how he got there. Street claimed he was out with his uncle on Boondocks Road and then later woke up inside a screened porch at the victim’s residence. Street says he placed the victim’s camouflage raincoat on and then ate an ice cream that he located inside and outdoor freezer. Street says he banged on the door a few times but nobody answered, so he grabbed a metal flashlight and broke the window. Street confirmed that he and the victim had a non-violent confrontation in the kitchen and that he was offered a glass of water before being told that the Sheriff’s Office would be notified.
Street was booked into the Hernando County Jail on charges of Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling, Criminal Mischief, and Theft. He remains behind bars on a $6,000 bond.

The victim isn’t too smart. This guy most likely would have done whatever he wanted without thinking twice about it and the victim decides to give him some water. If the burglar said he was hungry, would the victim have cooked him a three course meal too? Come on have some common sense.

IceMan - I disagree with your response. it’s appears that the burglar had no clue where he was (for whatever reason) and victim(s) chose to keep the situation controlled to not cause any further confrontation and/or “harm” to those in the home. Maybe, the calm demeanor presented by the victim, kept the burglar “calm” as well. (Though, unfortunately, this may not always be the case in such circumstances.)

nobody on earth believes he smashed out a window to gain entry for a glass of water. rings door bell nobody answers thinks jackpot goes around back smashes out window, gets inside and home is occupied. the fact the home owner was so passive makes this criminal lucky beyond his imagination.
