Two Deputies Treated for Injuries, Repeat Domestic Battery Suspect Charged with Resisting Arrest…

It reportedly took three deputies to arrest an alleged repeat domestic battery suspect Monday, and an arrest affidavit says two of them had to be treated at Brooksville Regional Hospital for minor injuries.  Deputies Purchase and Waskey were hurt while trying to take Michael J. Smallwood, 25, of Tampa into custody, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said they were called to Jackson Ave. in Masaryktown Monday afternoon when Smallwood allegedly battered his girlfriend for a second time.  The suspect allegedly pushed and grabbed her, leaving scratches on her throat area.

When three deputies tried to get Smallwood into a patrol car to take him to jail, he allegedly kicked Deputy PUrchase in the throat and then used his feet to shatter a car window, with flying glass cutting Deputy Waskey on the arm.

Smallwood was eventually booked into the Hernando County Jail on charges of domestic battery, violating pre-trial release on a previous domestic arrest, two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, three counts of resisting arrest with violence, and criminal mischief.  He was being held without bond Tuesday.
