Five Flee During Border Patrol Traffic Stop, One Person Struck by Car in Serious Condition
WESLEY CHAPEL (PASCO) – One person was seriously injured this morning after being struck by a car during a traffic stop on I-75.
According to officials, a US Border Patrol Agent conducted a traffic stop on a minivan near milepost 277, when five people fled on foot from the vehicle. One person attempted to cross I-75 and was struck by a Ford Mustang, traveling southbound. The victim was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.
The other four subjects fled into the woods, adjacent to the interstate. The incident closed the southbound lanes of the interstate for over an hour. Currently the inside lane only is closed and is expected to be reopened shortly. Troopers, Pasco County Deputies and Border Patrol Officers continue to search for the other occupants who fled the scene.
