Local Physician Accused of Sexual Misconduct with Several Patients, Charged with Battery

BROOKSVILLE – A local doctor is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after he allegedly had inappropriate contact with one of his patients.

Dr. Alfred Alingu of the Arecho Medical Clinic on Cortez Blvd was taken into custody around 9:00 a.m. this morning.

According to attorney Adam Horowitz, the battery charge is related to a lawsuit his client, Maureen Nicholson filed against Alingu last year.

Nicholson alleges that in December of 2015 Dr. Alingu, her primary physician, stroked her hair and groped her vaginal area. She also claims that during the alleged battery, Dr. Alingu stated “If I weren’t your doctor, you let me in there?”crystal-ad-paragraphHorowitz says this isn’t the first time Dr. Alingu has been accused of sexual misconduct with his patients. In addition to the Nicholson case, Horowitz is representing Liza Montague who says that between the summer of 2012 and 2015, Dr. Alingu fondled her breasts, legs, and upper thighs during office visits. At this time Dr. Alingu is not facing criminal charges in connection with the Montague case.

Dr. Alingu is free on a $1,000 bond.

It should be noted that Dr. Alingu was found guilty of driving under the influence in 2011.

These women are not “junkies” they are victims. There are ways to scare victims into not speaking and perhaps just being intimidated by his title is enough to keep quiet. I’m glad they had courage to come forward and hopefully justice will be served.

  • Holy Smokes. Steal a loaf of bread to feed your children from Walmart and you go to jail and a 1000.00 bail. Get arrested for sexually assault and go to jail and he gets a 1000.00 bail. Pure Bulls**t.

    • You are putting it nicely Regular Joe but accurately. In this county people are not treated equally. When it comes to the sheriff’s officers, the training, taxpayers pay for, is nonexistent.

      Tuesday, 14 March 2017, 5:20 pm
      • Hey Mickey. It is not the sheriff or deputies that determine bail, it is a judge, or by statute. Bail is not set to punish someone. It’s primary purpose is to ensure that the accused will appear in court. If they are a flight risk, the bail is set higher. If there is convincing evidence that releasing a person is a threat to the community, bail is set higher or denied.

        Wednesday, 15 March 2017, 7:57 am
        • Hey chief. You are correct the Sheriff’s Office does not set bail. They are the ones who set up the initial charges though. Smdh

          Wednesday, 15 March 2017, 11:17 am
          • TY. Yes it is by statute and at the Judges discretion but if charged properly we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

            Wednesday, 15 March 2017, 1:08 pm
        • The Sheriff’s Office also decides whether to arrest someone or not. I got the hell beat out of me by a 37 year old young man who was visiting my home. I am a 60 year old grandmother . The Sheriff’s Office response was well he doesn’t live here so it’s not domestic violence. I had bruises clearly where he grabbed me by the arm you could see his finger impression in the bruises. The supervising Sergeant, Rocky Wood indicated he never seen bruises that appear that quickly in his 35 years of doing detective work. He didn’t bother to ask if I was taking blood thinners. He just made up his mind. Scott Reak called me the next week and urged me to contact the State’s Attorney’s office so they would press charges. My response to him was you guys didn’t do your job and now you want me to do it for you. So yeah f*** the cops in this town.
