SPRING HILL – A violent attack inside a local mental health facility left four staff members injured and the suspect charged with multiple counts of assault and battery.
The incident began just after midnight Wednesday at Spring Brook Hospital on Grove Road, where according to officials, 27-year-old David Cash admitted himself voluntarily. Once inside, Cash rushed into the admissions office, jumped on the desk, and then punched two male victims, a Registered Nurse and Mental Health Technician. Cash then punched the ceiling, causing debris to fall to the ground and continued jumping up and down on the desk until it broke. Cash continued to beat the two previous victims until two additional male employees came to their aid. Cash then turned his attention to the new employees, biting one of them in the chest. Eventually Cash was subdued and held to the ground until Deputies arrived on the scene.
Cash was taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County Jail where he is charged with 3-counts of Battery on an LEO/Firefighter/EMT, Battery, and Criminal Mischief.
It is not known what caused the brutal attack but Cash does have a history of violence, according to jail records.
Cash is currently behind bars, held on a $16,500 bond.

It sure sounds like cash was running from something/someone ( drug dealer?? looking for a place to sleep/eat a meal ??) to me. When you check yourself in you usually want help not sparring partners !!!! Nature coast sure breeds alot of bullies.
I hope none of the workers were seriously injured & hospitalized. I would worry about the bite - aids, rabies even.
Prayers for recovery for all the workers.
Drugs and alcohol I perhaps but I’m no doctor..just another tool out of Spring Hill..good job on Tom showing everybody that Spring Hill is just another average city..
He probably just smoked some medical marijuana…Oh sorry, bath salts. Skin was alittle dry.
F’in LOON.
I feel he should have been strapped down in the Facility and kept till mental evaluation was completed. Shouldn’t that be proper protocol? He was self-admitted. He knew he was going bonkers. Yes, he hurt people. Let me throw up here you’ll might what to ponder. The reason we respect our public safety service workers is that they have made the decision to put themselves in harms way. I take issue in the incarceration rather that hospitalization.
