SPRING HILL – Last week RNRF reported the arrest of two men after officials say they raped a woman inside a local bar and then one of the suspects continued raping the victim in front of a nearby laundromat. (CLICK FOR ORIGINAL REPORT)
Later that same morning officials say one of the suspects, 24-year-old Richard Mosby, strangled a woman near the intersection of Hearth Road and Lamson Ave, and stole her purse. Deputies located Mosby later that day, hiding in a rubber container near his residence on Gold Coast Ave. Mosby was charged with two counts of sexual assault, burglary, and robbery. The second suspect, 25-year-old Kurtis Edie was taken into custody at his place of employment (Publix Grocery Store at Mariner Blvd and Northcliffe Blvd.) and later charged with sexual assault.
After publishing the original article, RNRF received several viewer tips regarding the incident; many of them asking why the alleged rape victim never called 911 or alerted bar staff of the assault.
During our investigation, RNRF was able to gain access to video surveillance from inside Delirium Sports Bar & Lounge. One segment shows Mosby, Edie, and the victim entering the men’s restroom numerous times, with the victim following her alleged attackers into the restroom on several occasions. The attached clip shows the victim acting playful with Mosby as they exit the restroom. Management did not want the majority of the video to be made public but from what we viewed, the victim appeared to be coherent, and was able to walk without stumbling or falling down. After speaking to bar staff, we learned that Mosby and the victim were together most of the night and neither had more than four beers each. According to bartender Pamela Jones, the victim came into the bar around 7 or 8 p.m. Monday evening and began talking to Mosby at the bar. Eventually she moved closer to Mosby and later began shooting pool with Edie. Jones says “Whenever a female comes in alone, I try to keep an eye on them, but she never seemed uneasy or in distress.” Jones says the last time she saw the trio was around 11:00 p.m. She also says that Edie only drinks about a pitcher of beer, shoots pool all night, and never bothers anyone.
Most of the bar staff we talked to said Edie seems to have some mental disability but that he is “harmless.” We spoke to Edie’s mother, Renee, who says Edie has the mentality of a 16-year-old, due to being oxygen deprived as a young child. Renee says since his arrest he has lost his job and was kicked out of a house he shared with other renters. When Edie went to first appearance, Renee says the Judge raised his bond amount from $10,000 to $50,000 without giving a reason why.On Saturday I spoke to Edie by phone and asked if he wasn guilty of assaulting the victim. Edie said “He [Mosby] pulled my pants down but I never got hard and I didn’t put it in her vagina.” Edie says he didn’t want to go in the restroom but Mosby threatened to beat him up if he didn’t join them. Once inside Edie says he tried to back away several times but Mosby kept pulling him towards her while [he] had sex with the victim. Video surveillance clearly shows Mosby motioning for Edie to join them in the restroom and on another occasion, Mosby is seen having a conversation with Edie in the hallway that seemed to make Edie uneasy.
Edie says that when everyone left the bar around 2:00 a.m. he, Mosby, and the victim walked to the north side of the building. That’s when Edie says a heavyset woman approached the victim and punched her in the face. The victim then fell the ground and hit her head, says Edie, so he immediately called 911 to report the battery. Officials would not confirm or deny that a call was made but Edie provided a screenshot of his cellphone showing an outgoing call to 911 at 2:07 a.m. that lasted 47 second.
I asked Edie why he admitted to assaulting the victim during an interview with detectives. Edie said in a very child-like voice “They kept playing good cop bad cop and I got nervous because they kept putting words in my mouth.” According to officials, Edie is quoted as saying “…the victim appeared disoriented during the entire sexual encounter and did not have the ability to consent to having sex.”
I explained to Edie that if he did have sex with the victim, there would be DNA evidence. I asked if he knew what that was and if he was certain that his DNA would not be discovered. Edie said “No! I did not touch her or have sex with her.”
Out of curiosity I asked Edie if it made him uncomfortable when Mosby pulled his pants down and if he thinks Mosby is attracted to both men and women. Edie said “yes, he told me he wanted to do something with me.” Bar staff said Mosby is known to hit on both men and women when he visits the bar, but that cannot be confirmed.
Officials say Mosby had sex with the victim while she was unconscious outside Best Cleaners but that video has not been released. The owners of Best Cleaners declined to comment or show RNRF surveillance video.
RNRF asked officials to provide more information on the case but at this time they said there will be no further details released to the public.
People who know Edie believe he is innocent and that he should be treated as a victim, not a suspect.
We will continue to follow this case and bring additional updates as they develop.

At this point the State Att’y should “no bill”, that is issue “no information”, more or less terminating any prosecution. The sheriff should look into charging the woman.
Snorting lines of coke, that’s why they kept going in & out of the bathroom.
BTW……that video shows nothing, certainly not proof of anything…
And all of you PEOPLE that had ‘something to say’ …………………….you all are really something. You know who you are………But that’s what society does, that his how the collective mind of society thinks. It’ll never change until everyone wants it to change.
IF what Edie says now is true ( no sex with victom ) , I wish to be first to apologize for my comments in previous post. I did jump to judgement because of info given by sherriff’s office at the time of original story. I’m sorry to Edie & his family.
