Gunman and One Victim Deceased After Shootout with Deputies, Mentally Ill Suspect Had Numerous Guns, Ammo
PORT RICHEY (PASCO) – The active shooter situation has come to an end, leaving the gunman and one other person deceased.
According to Sheriff Chris Nocco, the incident began around 2:50 p.m. this afternoon at 11605 Constance Drive, where 30-year-old Brian Desario shot and killed one person before opening fire on Deputies in the street.
Sheriff Nocco says the incident began when Desario believed the victim was “messing with his girlfriend.” Desario’s mom and boyfriend were inside the garage when Desario opened fire on the man he believed was seeing his girlfriend, however, Desario is mentally disabled and did not have a girlfriend, according to Sheriff Nocco.
Desario entered the roadway and began firing rounds towards Gulf Highlands Elementary School, which is just a block and a half away from the residence. Deputies tried to stop Desario but he opened fire on them and a gun battle ensued.
Desario was later found inside the residence deceased.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
Sheriff Nocco says Desario had collected several firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition.
Both Deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
There are no other details available at this time.
