Man Calls 911 to Report Armed Robber Stole His 2 lbs of Weed, Suspect Taken into Custody

BROOKSVILLE – With Cannabis becoming more accepted in society, many have forgotten that the hallucinogenic plant is still illegal in most states and is prohibited under Federal Law. But that doesn’t stop some people from believing it’s okay to possess the drug, and in some cases, call police when someone steals their stash.

That’s what happened to one “victim” yesterday, when Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the area Leonard Street after reports of an armed robbery.

According to officials, the victim claimed that a man held him at gunpoint and stole his “2 pounds” of weed. The victim, whose identity has not been released by officials, claims that 35-year-old Jason Byrd took his marijuana and fled in a black Dodge Durango.

Deputies located Byrd a short distance away on Josephine Street and he fully cooperated with their investigation.

During a search of the vehicle, Deputies located a .45 cal. Glock handgun and 320.1 grams of marijuana, about 3/4 of a pound.

Byrd admits getting into an altercation with the victim but says he didn’t rob anyone or display a firearm.

Byrd was taken into custody and charged with Felony possession of marijuana, over 20 grams, possession of paraphernalia, and carrying a concealed firearm. Byrd is not charged with robbery at this time.

The marijuana was not returned to the alleged victim and he is not facing criminal charges, according to reports.

      • You don’t realize how ignorant you sound by calling marijuana a hallucinogenic drug. They also listed marijuana as a schedule 1 drug along with with heroin and meth. Schedule 1 drugs are listed to have no medical value which we know to be wrong, just like your article is wrong. Can’t believe everything you read bro. No one in the history of the world I’ve ever smoked weed and had a hallucinogenic experience. You my friend are ignorant for posting this article of lies….. End rant

  • I don’t know who wrote this article, but pot is not a hallucinogenic drug. If You are going to be a Reporter, You need to learn to research what You are writing about. Misinformation about pot is what got it outlawed in the first place. There are ignorant People out there that believe something just because the media falsely gave it credibility. Like pot makes White Women go for Black Men. If You want to know what a hallucinogenic drug is, like LSD or Mescalin try Google, they can help.

        • Exactly!!! There are 3 classifcations of drug types. Stimulants, depressants, and hallucinogens. Marijuana is a depressant. Cigarettes are more dangerous yet are legal for capital gain purposes. Marijuana is used to help in many forms medically but it has yet to fight it’s way in nationwide to allow it to be covered insurance wise yet opioids are perfectly legal with a Dr.’s scribble on a pad. Don’t give me your denying subliminal message, I call b.s.

    Thursday, 30 November 2017, 12:44 pm
  • The bottom line is that the Federal government has no legal authority to ban pot. It could not ban alcohol back in the 1920s, the states did by passing an amendment. So where did it mysteriously get the power that it did not have to ban booze? It doesn’t. Unless the Constitution specifically gives the power, it does not exist And it is hypocritical for a reporter to report government propaganda as fact, helping to deny people of their RIGHT to pursue happiness in the manner they choose. You would be, and have been, the first person to scream about YOUR rights being violated

  • I’m with Bite Me as far as having a pot smoker over a drunk, meth, heroin user around me. For years I smoked pot AND HELD FULL TIME JOBS ( AND SOMETIMES PART TIME JOBS AT SAME TIME.) No way did I ever “halucinate” – if you do stop smoking it bc it’s laced with something. My mother was very ill and one of her doctors even said if he could prescribe pot for her to counteract effects of treatment he would. In my jobs I’ve met more pot smokers who held ( and still do ) responsible positions with city, state and federal government. STOP WITH THE SCARE TACTICS ALREADY!! THE ALCOHOL INDUSTRY IS STONEWALLING THE EFFORTS TO LEGALIZE POT BC THEY WILL LOSE REVENUE. Get on with legalizing and collecting taxes from it!!! By the way Tom, you misspelled “steal” but I know it wasn’t intentional – the heat of the story and all. Oh and yes I did see “Reefer Madness” movie at a university in Florida while smoking pot in their auditorium ( in the ’80’s ). Laughed so hard with hundreds of other people and had a great time.

  • The state of Florida has screwed up the medical marijuana program because they couldn’t get the laws right . Pissed off a lot of people on both sides , now has opened the door for recreational use of marijuana in 2018 . You will be able to vote on it and because fl dropped the ball it should pass with no problem. So sit tight pot heads your day of freedom is coming.

    • Can SIGFORLIFE get an AMEN 🙏🏾

      Friday, 1 December 2017, 12:50 am
  • I don’t understand the concept of reading articles just to criticize the writer. I agree those laws are ridiculous and outdated. That being said those are the laws..plain and simple. Tom has clearly stated facts..he even posted links on where to read about them. Maybe the critics should create their own news sites? In conclusion I’d like to point out while on the surface the victim seems ignorant, I think it was bloody brilliant. 2lbs I imagine is a lot of money. He may’ve even owed on it. He got what he called for..right? Maybe not his weed back, but Mr. Byrd won’t be robbing anyone else I’d wager.

    Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 11:54 pm
    • It seems like you have no grasp of the first amendment. But I agree with the last part, he did get what he called for. Anyone that was robbed would do the same thing except most people that get their weed stolen have the common sense not to call the cops.

      Thursday, 30 November 2017, 11:30 am
  • Tom Lemons can never get a story correct no matter how hard he try.

    Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 7:22 pm
    • What part of his story is not right? He is right on target with what he has said, as per the government. If you don’t like what he reports, use self control and don’t read it. It really is that simple.

      Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 8:46 pm
    • You’re just upset because he referenced the fact that weed is illegal. You’re about as pathetic as the “victim” in this case. Get a job and stop sleeping on your moms couch.

    Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 7:21 pm
  • While issue is oftimes taken with the author’s political leanings, factually stating that marijuana is a hallucinogen is apolitical.

      Thursday, 30 November 2017, 10:16 am
    • One person’s actions don’t account for the rest of a population. If you weren’t dumb you would understand that. Examples are for people that think so here’s one: people that use a letter to replace a word don’t know how to spell. Except you’re probably one of those sad people that assume everyone from the middle East (or descended) is a terrorist? Oh no! Is every fat person lazy? What next?! Everyone who doesn’t smoke weed must be as ignorant as you… Except I know that isn’t true. How far is your head up that cavity? You obviously haven’t seen daylight for years.

    Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 4:59 pm

    Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 4:16 pm
  • “the hallucinogenic plant” lolwut

    Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 4:00 pm
  • Sorry Tom. You have lost me as a reader, a supporter and a friend. You are completely clueless on marijuana. Do you realize how many areas of Florida have already decriminalized it? Bull snot on your hallucinogenic and reefer madness mindset. Learn how to do some research and knock the nonsense off.

I’d rather have someone smoking weed beside me than a drunk or a junkie.

Jeff Sessions is an idiot with his stance on marijuana. The only reason it is still against the federal law is because big Pharma is in their pockets.

Start researching better and quit with the scare tactics. You sound as bad as the useless sheriff.

•In June 2015, Miami-Dade County commissioners, by a 10-3 vote, passed an ordinance that gives police the option not to arrest those caught with less than 20 grams of marijuana. Instead, an officer might write a civil citation resulting in a $100 fine. The ordinance went into effect July 10, making Miami-Dade the first county to explore decriminalization.
•In July 2015, Miami Beach unanimously passed a similar ordinance, also applying to less than 20 grams of marijuana and also resulting in a discretionary $100 civil fine.
•Then, in early August, Broward County’s Hallandale Beach followed suit: Effective September 19, 2015, possession of 20 grams or less can result in only a $100 fine.
•Later in August, Key West commissioners voted unanimously to give police the option of issuing $100 civil fines in lieu of making arrests for 20 grams or less of marijuana.
•West Palm Beach joined the trend in September 2015 when it approved a measure that gives police the option of $100 fines instead of arrests for 20 grams or less.
•In early November 2015, Broward County unanimously approved an ordinance giving police the option to issue $100 civil fines rather than arrests for those caught with 20 grams or less. Fines would be $250 for second offenses and $500 for third offenses. An ordinance much like Broward County’s was passed by its city of Wilton Manors, near Ft. Lauderdale, in late November.
•In December 2015, the Palm Beach County commissioners voted 4-1 to give police the option to issue a $100 civil fine for possession of up to 20 grams of marijuana.
•In March 2016, Volusia County, which includes Daytona Beach, became the first county in central Florida to join the trend when the council unanimously passed an ordinance giving officers discretion to issue $100 tickets, again for possession of up to 20 grams.
•Also in March 2016, Tampa passed an ordinance giving police the option of issuing a civil fine, rather than arresting, those caught with 20 grams or less of marijuana. The amount would increase each time, from $75 to $150 to $300 to a maximum of $450 for the fourth offense.
•In May 2016, Orlando passed an ordinance that gives police the discretion to issue $100 tickets for a first offense of possession of up to 20 grams and $200 tickets for a second offense; those who cannot afford the fines can do community service or take a drug class instead. The ordinance will take effect on October 1.
•In June 2016, Osceola County passed an ordinance that allows police to issue a $100 ticket for marijuana possession, subject to their discretion. Cities will be able to opt out of the ordinance.
•Alachua County passed a similar ordinance in August 2016, which allows a civil citation to be given in lieu of arrest. The fines are $100 for a first violation, $150 for a second citation, and $200 for a third one. Those who cannot afford to pay may elect to do community service. People may receive a maximum of three such citations, and on the third citation must be screened to determine if they need drug treatment.
•In September 2016, Port Ritchie passed an ordinance that allows a $155 civil citation to be issued in lieu of arrest for possession of up to 20 grams of marijuana, as long as the person is not engaged in any criminal activity at the time.

    Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 3:51 pm
      • Could you share the links you used in your research to any peer-reviewed studies, or any properly sourced articles claiming that marijuana is a hallucinogen?

        Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 4:30 pm
          • WTF do you think the government is going to say? They have been handing it out for years.

A grant was recently given to UF to research marijuana for HIV.
The Feds talk out of both sides of their mouth. Trump will make America great again and reschedule during his eight years in office.

Do some better research and don’t trust the governments word on it. They say no medical benefits but the patients who use it will tell you, the Feds are nothing but liars. It helps many people and we have yet to see any hallucinations, even when taken in high doses as the reefer madness era of folks want you to believe.

            Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 5:08 pm
            • Jiminey Cricket hopefully he’s only in there for four years. If he gets reelected there is no redemption.

              Thursday, 30 November 2017, 11:45 am
          • The only places where hallucinogenic effects are mentioned are unsourced.

            Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 5:51 pm
              • Your source states that hallucinations, delusions, and psychosis are symptoms at “very high doses” it did not state it was a hallucinagenic plant. A mind altering yes, not hallucinagenic. Very different

                Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 10:16 pm
                • It’s almost like he used an essay tactic of reading and borrowing a few words from sources that he can only site one of. Oh jeez that’s exactly what happens and that’s how he also defends himself. Being a reporter shouldn’t mean picking your words to seem biased but not technically be, right? If anyone goes and looks up hallucinagenic, I guess weed would technically fall under it… As well as every single other drug EVER. It isn’t about the weed Tom. It’s about you being a reporter finding loopholes to make your little stories just a little more sensational. Maybe someone is a little biased for personal reasons. A cup of coffee could fall under the category of hallucinagenic and Tom, your cup is full of lemons.

                  Thursday, 30 November 2017, 9:59 am
      • Tim…Please do not defend your reporting…if anything people need to step up and call out the commies with dementia and emotional issues…

        Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 8:01 pm
        • Into a discussion at all. I was planning on saying something else but I realized it isn’t an argument of logic and you don’t see people as people. Commies are still people and have a better sense of community than your sorry self. Who Cares??? You freaking SHOULD.

          Thursday, 30 November 2017, 10:58 am
      • your reports are often so mixed up with your own opinion and biases that you denying it was laughable

          Thursday, 30 November 2017, 1:17 pm
    • well, bite me, with ppl like you to give us the facts as well as you did, we don’t need tom to do it any further… but needless to say .. there is a quantity difference in the course of several blocks, or a few hands..

      Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 4:27 pm
      • Maybe there never was two pounds. If the guy is stupid enough to report this as an armed robbery of his weed, he doesn’t have that much sense to begin with. Sounds to me like someone made up the armed robbery and was upset because he couldn’t get any weed, turning his possible dealer in. This is just opinion. I have facts and plenty of them on marijuana.

        Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 5:19 pm
    • @Bite Me Grow up dips!

      Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 6:02 pm
    • Well, bite me, Tom doesn’t need friends who can’t read or understand his writings so bye Felicia ✌️

      Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 6:07 pm
    • No need to stop reading. It is always valuable to understand the agenda of the opposition. I enjoyed Tom’s last piece on how pot turns criminals in to criminals. That was fun.

      Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 6:32 pm
    • Say that again please.
