Two Story Home Destroyed in Late Night Fire, First Structure Fire for Station 6
HERNANDO BEACH – The newly acquired Fire Station 6 responded to their first working residential fire late last night but despite arriving on the scene in less than 6-minutes the home was a total loss.
According to Fire Officials, just after 11:00 p.m. a barking dog alerted neighbors to flames and smoke billowing out of a two story home located at 3269 Minnow Creek Drive.
Due to the intense heat and live power lines, firefighters were forced to battle the blaze from outside the structure and protect neighboring homes. Officials say the structure eventually buckled and collapsed but no other homes were damaged.
It was later determined the home was unoccupied and there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
